We currently operate 1,200+ locations domestically and 50+ internationally, including specialty concept stores for the NBA, NHL, Paris Saint-Germain, and numerous MLB teams. In recent years, Lids has built partnerships with iconic global brands including Marvel, Playboy, and the Harlem Globetrotters, and gained ambassadors like Justin Jefferson, Quavo, and Josephine Skriver – creating a community for both sports fans and fashion lovers.


The company is currently expanding with the goal of becoming the largest licensed brick-and-mortar sports retailer across the globe.


General Position Summary:

The Learning & Development Manager is a key position to the continuous success of the Lids organization. In this role, you will spearhead efforts to assess development needs, create and implement learning strategies, design, and deliver training programs, and track learning effectiveness to attract, retain, and engage top talent. You will collaborate closely with all departments within Lids to ensure the continuous development and growth of our employees. Additionally, you will work with the leadership team and functional managers to identify and implement innovative training programs that align with business objectives.


This position is required to work fully on-site in the Lids Corporate Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a consultative approach with leadership and subject matter experts to identify training and development needs, then design, develop, and implement new training initiatives to meet business requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership on designing, developing, and delivering ongoing talent strategies, including team and performance effectiveness, employee development/training, and performance management.
  • Lead and oversee the organization’s annual talent review process, advising hiring managers and leaders on proper employee evaluation and talent reporting to leadership.
  • Manage and mentor Learning and Development Specialist, providing guidance and support to ensure successful training program execution and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Drive content and curriculum development for multiple media formats such as video, surveys, assessments, and training manuals/guides.
  • Oversee the development of Company success profiles, career paths, and other programs to support employee growth at both retail and corporate levels.
  • Manage corporate communications related to business updates and company initiatives, ensuring clear, consistent, and effective messaging across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead in the management of the summer internship program and campus engagement initiatives, as well as overseeing new employee onboarding programming and experience.


Job Required Knowledge, Skills and Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or Organizational Development or 2-3 years of Learning and Development experience.
  • Experience with a learning management system or other learning software.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training and development materials.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent project management including the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience delivering training, developing training programs, and assessing those programs.
  • Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods.
  • Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices.
  • Ability to build rapport with employees, leadership, and vendors.
