The Senior High Voltage Engineer will oversee the design and development of substation and transmission line projects, including studies, calculations, and coordination. This role also involves delivering automation systems for high-voltage components in large-scale solar, battery energy storage, and wind projects. The engineer will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to create effective and reliable designs for substations and transmission lines.


  • The position is based in either The Woodlands, Texas, or Downtown Houston area.
  • Estimated Duration: 12 months with potential for direct hire
  • Some travel to sites, as needed
  • Hybrid Schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage scopes of work and deliverables for substation and transmission line projects.
  • Create detailed plans and layouts including control buildings, general arrangements, cable and conduit plans, grounding plans, and power distribution diagrams.
  • Contribute to the development of physical application documents for air-insulated (AIS) and gas-insulated substations (GIS), defining design scopes, methodologies, and criteria.
  • Review and guide design basis memorandums and engineering scopes to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Provide support for operational renewable projects, including high-voltage systems and substations.
  • Engage in engineering, design, and construction review processes, focusing on collection systems, substations, and transmission lines.
  • Assist with project commissioning, documentation, and energization.
  • Continuously review and improve commissioning, maintenance, and operational procedures.
  • Analyze maintenance records and recommend actions to ensure compliance with NERC standards.
  • Facilitate structured feedback sessions to address lessons learned, including misoperations and safety events.
  • Update project documentation and develop site improvement projects with detailed scopes, budgets, schedules, and proposals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet project needs and objectives.
  • Lead or participate in project meetings and conference calls.


Required Qualifications:

  • Authorized to work in the USA.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Over 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineering license in at least one US state.
  • In-depth knowledge of medium- and high-voltage equipment, including relay protection systems, collection systems, and transmission designs.
  • Experience with large utility-scale solar projects is preferred.
  • Experience with high-voltage field services is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project software suites, and SEL equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in the operation of capacitor banks, transformer load tap changers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, communication, and customer relationship skills.
