This opening arises from a forthcoming retirement, and we are in search of a visionary leader who can enhance production management and elevate the shop's operational excellence.

Our client is open to professionals from outside the millwork industry who possess the expertise to implement lean manufacturing principles and certifications, streamlining processes and improving workflow efficiency. Additionally, they welcome experienced Production Managers from the custom millwork industry who have demonstrated success in enhancing shop efficiencies.


As the Production Manager, your primary responsibilities will include planning, organizing, and controlling production within the architectural woodwork and specialty interior finishes sectors. Ensuring that goods are produced efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards is paramount. Additionally, you will oversee overall safety, manage the manufacturing team, and spearhead training initiatives.


This role demands a strong analytical and technical skill set, with a focus on delivering fast, yet carefully thought-out results. Effective leadership and end-to-end control of work processes are essential. Your responsibilities will center around developing and implementing innovative ideas, systems, and technology, while continuously analyzing and improving existing ones. Proficiency in lean and modern manufacturing techniques is a must. You will be expected to exhibit a high level of expertise, with a keen eye for identifying and rectifying errors.


Your work must be performed accurately and swiftly, always striving for the highest quality. The role requires a concentrated focus on the task at hand, with minimal inclination for small talk or social distractions. Given the broad scope of the job, an authentic, direct, and authoritative communication style is vital. Decision-making must be swift and calculated, often with little reliance on consensus or collaborating opinions, though understanding company history and best practices will also be crucial.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and Manage Department Leaders:Conduct one-on-one meetings with department leaders.
  • Set and manage productivity goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate production personnel performance.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new employees, including coordinating with the Carpenters Union for apprentice interviews.
  • Production Scheduling:Plan and implement production schedules using the ERP software, INNERGY.
  • Collaborate with department leaders and management teams to maintain and communicate schedules.
  • Run weekly workload meetings to review and update production plans.
  • Provide regular status reports and capacity plan updates.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks and escalate unresolved issues.
  • Ensure Timely and Budget-Conscious Manufacturing:Utilize and manage overtime as necessary.
  • Create additional shifts to meet deadlines.
  • Provide feedback to sales and estimating teams on manufacturing estimates.
  • Maintain Health and Safety Standards:Work with safety committees and consultants.
  • Ensure the workplace is hazard-free and housekeeping is maintained.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Manager for equipment safety and operability.
  • Develop and Enforce Standard Operating Procedures:Collaborate with production staff and the OpEx Department to improve processes.
  • Gather feedback from install teams for manufacturing improvements.
  • Implement lean and modern manufacturing methods to enhance operations.
  • Quality Control:Establish and maintain quality control systems and processes to meet project-specific requirements.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination:Ensure efficient collaboration and communication between relevant departments.
  • Regularly update upper management on production-impacting issues.
  • Additional Duties:Perform other responsibilities as assigned based on company needs.

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year degree from a college or technical school, OR equivalent combination of education and architectural millwork production or other manufacturing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of technology, process improvement, and documentation.
  • Experience in production and manufacturing processes.
  • Adequate business and management principles knowledge.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard equipment and technical expertise.
  • Knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, and inventory processes.


Computer Requirements:

  • Proficient with ERP software (INNERGY or other ERP), MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and internet software.
