Join our dynamic and forward-thinking People Technology engineering organization as our Distinguished Engineer, Workday, where you’ll be at the forefront of driving innovation, spearheading transformative projects, and leading foundational improvements. We are seeking a sharp technical leader with deep Workday experience who can seamlessly bridge the gap between business requests and architecting the technical landscape to deliver. Your projects will have tremendous impact, be scalable, and at the center of modernization efforts in Walmart’s People Technology organization.

About Team:

The Enterprise People Technology team supports the successful deployment and adoption of new People technology across the enterprise. As a Fortune #1 company, our work impacts millions of associates globally. People Technology is one of the major segments of Walmart Global Tech’s Enterprise Business Services organization, which is invested in building a compact, robust organization that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and the Associate Digital Experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide strategic guidance and hands-on support in the development of best practices, architectural designs, and technology solutions.
  • Lead and mentor teams in the implementation of complex solutions leveraging Workday’s Core HR modules, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the continuous improvement of our Workday implementation while building alignment across open stack designs and architecture.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in software engineering, advocating for the adoption of Workday functionality where appropriate.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and resilient systems that meet business goals and customer needs.
  • Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and troubleshooting sessions to ensure the highest standards are met when implementing Workday configuration or Workday integrations.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and inclusivity within the team.
  • Lead the end-to-end integration of Workday and SAP SuccessFactors systems with open source technologies in large-scale tier-0 systems.

What you’ll bring:

  • Deep Technical Expertise: A distinguished engineer should have extensive knowledge in their field, including advanced concepts in software engineering, system architecture, and technology trends. This expertise is crucial for driving innovation, solving complex technical problems, and providing guidance on best practices.
  • Leadership and Influence: The ability to lead by example, mentor junior engineers, and influence decision-making processes at all levels of the organization is vital. This includes promoting a culture of technical excellence, encouraging continuous learning, and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Strategic Thinking: A strategic mindset to align technical initiatives with business goals is essential. This involves understanding the broader business context, anticipating future trends and challenges, and making decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term objectives
  • Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: Distinguished engineers are expected to tackle some of the most challenging problems in the organization. This requires exceptional analytical skills, creativity, and the ability to develop innovative solutions that are scalable, efficient, and effective.
  • Effective Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills are necessary to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and effectively negotiate and resolve conflicts. This also includes the ability to listen to and incorporate diverse perspectives and feedback.
