POSITION: Account Manager

DEPARTMENT: Employee Benefits

REPORTS TO: Practice Leader


Summary: Retain clients through servicing and management of client relationships both internally and externally. Collaborate with team members of the department to deliver exceptional customer service, achieve client satisfaction, and support new business opportunities. Support assigned account executive(s).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with assigned account executive to oversee the renewal marketing process for a dedicated portfolio of clients.
  • Record compliance documents related to renewals, sales, and insurance operations in the agency management database.
  • Assess proposals, prepare marketing materials, and craft Request for Proposals ("RFPs") when necessary.
  • Generate regular reports as assigned.
  • Work closely with the service team to execute the implementation of transitions to new carriers, introduction of new coverage, and plan design or funding modifications.
  • Deliver exceptional client service by analyzing trends, exploring plan documents, and regulations, and proposing solutions to account executives or producers.
  • Participate in client meetings as required.
  • Maintain accurate client information in the agency management database, following established policies and procedures.
  • Perform audits on assigned book of business at various times throughout the year to ensure billing accuracy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of health and benefit products, services, and tools to effectively educate clients about their available program offerings.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with carriers, vendors, and clients to enhance client retention.
  • Contribute to reviewing internal compliance, client disclosures, summary plan documents ("SPDs"), and employee communications to ensure alignment with client expectations and legal guidelines.
  • Assist in handling client-specific projects as assigned.
  • Promote a positive department and office environment by encouraging teamwork, knowledge sharing, and a cooperative attitude.
  • Promote a commitment to achieve or exceed internal and external performance standards.
  • Participate in training opportunities to remain current on industry information, best practices, new product development, legislation, coverages, and technology.
  • General knowledge of self insurance and reference-based pricing insurance model
  • Follow agency guidelines, policies, and procedures; including professional development and continuing education required for valid licensing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Negotiation: Proficiency in negotiating with benefits vendors, carriers, and other parties to secure the best terms and offerings for clients' benefits packages.
  • Presentation: Capability to create and deliver clear and engaging presentations to clients, summarizing benefits options, program changes, and related details.
  • Consultative Approach: Skill in understanding clients' unique needs and providing strategic advice on benefits plan design, cost management, compliance, and industry trends.
  • Industry Knowledge: Thorough understanding of employee benefits, health insurance regulations, compliance requirements, and emerging trends in the benefits landscape.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze benefits data, utilization patterns, and claims information to derive insights and recommend adjustments for more efficient benefits programs.
  • Project Management: Proficient organization and time management skills to oversee multiple client accounts, ensure deadlines are met, and manage benefit plan changes.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work closely with internal teams, such as HR, legal, and finance, as well as external parties like insurance carriers and brokers.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with benefits software, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) to effectively manage and present benefits data.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and relationship-building, to effectively interact with clients, employees, and third-party partners.
  • Ethical Standards: A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive employee and client information with the utmost professionalism and ethics.
  • Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changes in benefit regulations, market trends, and client needs to provide effective recommendations and solutions.


Education and Experience:

Required

  • Valid Life, Accident, and Health Insurance Producer license in good standing or required within 60 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages, contracts, and state regulations where business is conducted.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, and applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Proficient knowledge in use of office equipment, including but not limited to copy machines, printed, faxes, binding machines, etc.
  • 3+ years of experience in the insurance industry, human resources or a related field.

Preferred

  • College Degree in a business-related field or equivalent work experience.
