VP, Drug Discovery

Position Summary: A discovery-stage biotech company, specializing in the development of disease-modifying therapies by utilizing natural protein homeostasis processes, is seeking a highly experienced leader to head its drug discovery division. This critical role involves leading the development of a portfolio of degrader therapeutics through pre-clinical stages, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and novel approaches to address diseases with significant unmet medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead the drug discovery efforts for degrader therapeutics, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic focus on targeted protein degradation.
- Team Management: Oversee and develop a multidisciplinary team of chemists, biologists, and simulation specialists, fostering an innovative and collaborative research environment.
- Innovation in Degrader Design: Guide the creation of novel bivalent molecules and molecular glues, managing the processes of screening, hit identification, and lead optimization in degrader technologies.
- Collaboration and Networking: Strengthen and manage partnerships with external pharmacology, toxicology, and clinical teams, as well as with academic leaders, biotech companies, and CROs.
- Regulatory and Compliance Insight: Ensure all pre-clinical drug discovery activities adhere to global regulatory and ethical standards.
- Scientific Representation: Serve as a leading scientific voice in external forums, promoting the company's advancements in protein degradation and other therapeutic areas.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field with strong medicinal chemistry expertise.
- At least 12 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech drug discovery, with extensive work in targeted protein degradation.
- Proven track record of leading degrader drug discovery programs from concept to IND filing.
- Deep knowledge of the mechanisms of targeted protein degradation and technologies like E3 ligase modulators.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to inspire and manage a high-performance scientific team.
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to adapt in a fast-evolving field.
