We’ve been asked to identify candidates for a VP/Executive VP/Medical Director for Early Phase Development.


This client is led by a team of executives with a proven track record of success and innovation and they desire to bring new members to their team that are creative, curious, and want to improve the world around them.


About the Role - This executive will supervise the early phase development program of study drugs, design innovative clinical trials, and will work closely with the study management team to enhance the quality of clinical trials and improve patient access.


Responsibilities -

  • Be a strategic partner to senior management, leading a cross functional team managing the study drug, starting from the first-in-human trial.
  • Design, execute, and supervise the clinical development plan and guiding studies.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance (GCP/GVP/etc) across all facets of the studies while fostering an environment that still enables scientific curiosity.
  • Ensure that the process is data driven and is shaped and influenced by a strong team of investigators, industry leaders, and company advisors.
  • Have and maintain relationships across the industry with internal and external partners/stakeholders.
  • BE HANDS ON: Play an active role in study start up activities, relationships with external sites, and provide clinical support to the study as needed.
  • Act as a local representative for the company to external/international stakeholders in the clinical trial/development process.
  • Remain informed and knowledgeable about a constantly changing treatment landscape with a goal of finding better ways to treat patients during the study process.
  • BE PATIENT FOCUSED: Find and implement innovative ways to make the study process better, faster, and easier for patients without a drop in accuracy.
  • Effectively communicate and lead teams of varying sizes, allowing for transparency, innovation, and a passion for the mission of the company.
  • SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT: Design and execute clinical trials and enabling projects in early phase stages.


Qualifications -

REQUIRED:

  • Prior work with international stakeholders
  • Led teams in first-in-human clinical trials
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of clinical development, study design, protocol execution, and drug development.
  • Industry experience and expertise in Oncology and/or Hematology.
  • Proven experience working with little to no oversight and minimal guidance.
  • Maintains relationships in the industry and knowledge of regulatory agencies, guidelines, ICH, GCP and related.
  • Maintains a network of research organizations and external partners for quick and immediate access to ensure seamless start-up processes for trials across regions.
  • MD or MD/PhD
  • 4+ years of early development experience
  • 10+ years of experience overseeing clinical trials and clinical development
  • Outside of the box thinker with a proven track record of innovation.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time (International and Domestic)
  • Will be on-site at the San Diego office at least 3 times per week.


PREFERRED:

  • Experience designing and executing clinical trials in other regions of the world beyond the US.
  • Experience running clinical trials for Oncology and/or Hematology.
  • Phase I experience in solid tumors or hematologic malignancies
  • Small molecule experience

Pay range and compensation package: $325K - $388K DOE; Full benefits package to be discussed on a “per person” basis.
