Job Title: Data Center Lead

Location: Primary Location: Allentown, PA (preference), Secondary Location: Louisville, KY

Duration: 6-12 Months (Contract To Hire)



Job Description:


Work Schedule:


• 1-2 days per week onsite (3 days if converted to permanent)


Position Overview:


The Data Center Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operations of three data centers, along with remote computer rooms and substations across PA, KY, and RI. This role combines both leadership and hands-on engineering, ensuring the efficient and secure operation of data center facilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in data center management, operational excellence, and right-sizing data centers.


Key Responsibilities:


Data Center Operations Management: Oversee daily data center operations, ensuring all activities are monitored, compliant with standards, and effectively managed to prevent outages or disruptions.


Team Leadership: Manage and guide the data center team, coordinating tasks such as racking, stacking, powering equipment, and ensuring appropriate monitoring.


Process Optimization: Review and optimize operational processes and procedures, particularly during upgrades, outages, and other critical events.


Change Management: Implement and enforce change management processes to ensure that any modifications, such as moving or changing a switch, are scheduled, coordinated, and approved to avoid business impacts.


Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of all data center operations, including maintenance verifications, technical drawings, and procedural documents.


Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Engage and supervise vendors and subcontractors supporting the data center, ensuring compliance with security protocols and operational standards.


Resource Management: Track and report on data center resource consumption (power, cooling, rack space), ensuring optimal utilization and identifying areas for improvement.


Emergency Response: Provide 24/7 support for emergency incidents affecting mission-critical services, quickly distinguishing between isolated server problems, network outages, and power/cooling issues.


Qualifications:


• Proven experience in managing multiple data centers and remote computer rooms.


• Strong hands-on engineering skills, including racking, stacking, and powering equipment.


• Extensive experience in optimizing data center operations for efficiency and reliability.


• Demonstrated ability to manage and enforce change management processes.


• Expertise in liaising with Facilities and IT teams to coordinate data center activities.


• Strong documentation skills with attention to detail.


• Ability to manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with SLAs and security protocols.


• Willingness to work on-site 1-2 days per week (potentially 3 days if hired permanently).
