Could you be our next Director of Product Development, USA?

The Director of Product Development, USA is responsible for driving the innovation and development of new products tailored to our core retail customers, new product and program development for new retail customers, and managing existing product development improvement projects. The role will manage projects from concept to execution, ensuring that products are developed to the Hewitt standard and customer and market expectations, whilst meeting all necessary regulatory standards. This role will work closely and collaboratively with Hewitt’s manufacturing partners and identifying and onboarding new manufacturing partners when required.


What can you expect day-to-day? 


Project Management

  •  Lead new product development and existing product improvement projects from initial concept through to market execution.
  • Collaborate closely with Hewitt’s core retail customers and manufacturing partners, to ensure alignment and timely delivery of projects.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all developed products meet relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.


Stakeholder Management

  • Manage various stakeholders regarding requirements/timeframes as part of the NPD/EPD project team.
  • Work with the sales and marketing teams on the business and customer innovation portals sourcing information and reports from various sources.
  • Effectively communicate to all parties’ recipes, formulation and suppliers following concept development.
  • Develop and foster relationships with external research partners and build a network of strategic suppliers as required.
  • Continiously identify,assess and onboarding of suitable manufacturing partners (both existing and new) for new product development projects.


Consumer Insights & Strategy Development

  • Develop and lead a product strategy and roadmap that is informed by consumer insights, market trends, and competitive analysis.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to gather feedback and refine product concepts.


Process Improvement

  • Lead the implementation and optimisation of process improvements for both new and existing product development.
  • Implement and oversee the Stage Gate approval process to ensure all projects meet critical milestones and quality standards.


To be successful in the role, you will have: 

  • Extensive experience in Product Development in manufacturing supplying retail – Meat/Poultry, Ready Meals, Cook Chill meats, and or Smallgoods.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and regulatory requirements in the retail sector.
  • Proven experience working with cross-functional teams and managing relationships with external partners.
  • Experience working with third party manufacturing arrangements
  • Excellent problem solving and process improvement skills.
  • High level understanding of packaging and packaging development.
  • Competent in using Microsoft office and other product development programs.
  • Competent in project management and common project management tools.
  • Strong presentation skills and proven experience working with grocery retail product development and category teams.
  • High level of attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Understanding of USDA Organic and high claims regulatory requirements a plus
  • Must be able to undertake extensive travel to manufacturing partners and customers, as required.
