Sr. Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Are you an experienced Payroll/Benefits Coordinator with a strong background in managing payroll and benefits programs? We are seeking a highly skilled professional for a key role in a government operations setting for our client in Sedro Wooley. This position, reporting to the Finance Director, will be responsible for overseeing payroll for approximately 110 employees and administering comprehensive benefits programs. This role is a permanent full-time position and will require regular on-site work in Sedro Wooley, WA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Handle payroll processing for a diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Manage payroll deductions, benefits premium payments, and employee enrollments.
  • Benefits Administration: Administer employee benefits programs, addressing queries, and resolving discrepancies efficiently.
  • Compliance & Record-Keeping: Maintain compliance with federal and state fund requirements, ERISA standards, and ensure meticulous record-keeping.
  • Software Utilization: Operate AccuFund or similar governmental fund accounting software systems for payroll and benefits administration.
  • Communication & Conflict Resolution: Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats. Resolve any conflicts that arise with professionalism.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field required. Alternatively, an associate’s degree with at least seven (7) years of relevant experience is acceptable.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in managing multi-fund payroll and benefits programs. In-depth knowledge of federal and state fund requirements and ERISA regulations.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS). Experience with AccuFund or similar software systems is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Conflict Management: Proven ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Licensing & Compliance: Must hold a valid unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License and be insurable. Willingness to sign a confidentiality/non-disclosure agreement and pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
