Description of Position: Serves as an IT Specialist/Executive Communications Support Action Officer (AO) in USSPACECOM’s Systems & Services Support Branch.


Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing, supporting, and coordinating troubleshooting efforts of USSPACECOM IT Systems for all Command GO/FO/SESs and their support staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to users and their support staff. Prepares, coordinates, and implements policy and procedures for hardware and software applications system operation.
  • Analyzes complex operational and tactical processes and/or a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions relative to a wide range of IT services and support.
  • Keeps abreast on data products, processes, or programs that enhance functional area management and provide for increased organizational optimization of Information Technology (IT) processes.
  • Serves as a senior technical advisor to management and participates in special projects. Isolates and corrects complex problems which hinder the capability of the organization to fully utilize information management technology.


Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of system sufficient to oversee, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of systems.
  • Ability to apply and direct the application of methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems; to provide and direct support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers; and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet mission requirements and objectives within available resources.
  • Previous experience working with GO/FO customers at a Combatant Command highly desired.
  • Ability to proactively work tickets, author standard operating procedures, and prepare for the next major install, migration, etc.


Qualification Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in performing the major duties of position outlined above.
  • Knowledge of the United States Space Command Component organization and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, operational impacts, best practices and organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation). Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).
  • Thrive in fast moving environment with quick turn deadlines. Ability to resolve day-to-day issues as they pertain to the execution of the Combatant Command’s IT systems and networks.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an Advanced level IT certification in accordance with DoDM 8140.03

  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
