Job Description:
The Cybersecurity Systems Protection Specialist is tasked with maintaining the necessary operational security posture for an information system, collaborating closely with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Security Officer (ISO).
This role demands in-depth knowledge and expertise to oversee the security components of an information system, often being responsible for the daily security operations.
Responsibilities encompass physical and environmental security, personnel security, incident response, and security training and awareness initiatives.Coordination with the ISSM and ISO is essential for monitoring the information system(s) and their operational environment, which includes developing and revising authorization documentation and implementing configuration management across authorization boundaries.
This entails evaluating the security implications of changes and advising the ISSM accordingly.
The primary focus is on Special Access Programs (SAPs) supporting Department of Defense (DoD) entities, including HQ Air Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assisting the ISSM in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Preparing, reviewing, and updating authorization packages.
Ensuring that approved procedures are established for clearing, sanitizing, and disposing of various types of hardware and media.
Alerting the ISSM to any changes that may impact the authorization status of the information system(s).
Conducting regular reviews of information systems to ensure adherence to the security authorization package.
Coordinating any modifications to hardware, software, or firmware with the ISSM and Authorizing Official/Designated Approving Authority (AO/DAO) prior to implementation.
Ensuring all IS security-related documentation is up-to-date and accessible to authorized personnel.
Collecting, reviewing, and documenting audit records (including any anomalies).
Participating in required technical and security training (e.g., operating systems, networking, security management) relevant to assigned duties.
Executing the cybersecurity component of self-inspections, providing security coordination and reviewing all system assessment plans.
Generating reports on the status of security safeguards applied to computer systems.
Performing ISSO duties in support of both internal and external clients.
Conducting security impact analysis activities and providing insights to the ISSM regarding all configuration management changes to the authorization boundaries.
Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience
Experience with SAP required
Prior roles such as System Administrator, Network Administrator, or ISSO preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (4 years)
Certifications:
IAT Level II or IAT Level II - within 6 months of hire (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, etc.)
Security Clearance:
TS/SCI required.
Must be able to attain – TS/SCI with CI Polygraph
Other Requirements:
Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
