SUMMARY
The Production Manager is responsible for all manufacturing-related activities in a factory. Primary duties include planning, coordinating, and controlling all the steps in the production process. The manager directs and coordinates the activities of the extrusion manufacturing operation by performing the following duties in coordination with the operational management team, production supervisors, and personally.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year university or an equivalent amount of professional and technical experience with the following capabilities: Ability to troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing processes; Effective skills in managing people; Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Database software, Internet software, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. Working knowledge of SAP is highly desired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
Reviews production orders to determine a proper production schedule and works directly with the operational management, sales, and customer service teams to ensure that the proper inventory is in stock, schedules are accurate, and products are delivered on time.
- Resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays using production and operational reports. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations, maximize operational efficiencies, and minimize operational interruptions.
- Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and meet or exceed quality control standards.
- Hold daily production meetings and safety briefings with the operational management team. Review the previous 24 hours of operation and plan the next 24 hours of operation.
- Meets regularly with department supervisors to review operations and performance to resolve issues affecting all shifts and continuously train supervisors on new procedures and processes.
Ensures that production output is maximized (i.e., line speeds and coil weights), scrap is reduced, maximizes efficiencies during changeovers and start-ups, and labor utilization is efficiently managed.
Demonstrated ability to delegate, influence, and lead team members and contractors. Build a professional and collaborative performance culture that develops, motivates, supports, and recognizes all members of the operational manufacturing team to meet and exceed production goals and efficiencies and encourage ownership and employee engagement while fostering a team concept among the operational team to ensure a safe working environment.
- I'd like to remind management personnel to set production and quality control standards, minimize/eliminate warranty issues, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered to maximize operational efficiencies and utilization of human resources.
- Performs annual performance appraisals for direct reports and monitors employee performance appraisals done by their direct reports. Performs periodic reviews for probationary direct reports.
- Determines responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
- Oversees activities of workers fabrication or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
- Coordinates the Cap-Ex requirements, calculates the ROI, implements Cap-Ex projects, collects data, and reports to the management team on an ongoing basis.
- Cost reduction targets should be achieved to allow the company to eCompanyts product line to commercial or other applications.
- Effectively manage and motivate the operational team to achieve the Company's taCompany'sals while maintaining a positive and productive working environment.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a corporate culture that supports the Company's ovCompany'siness objectives and goals by providing leadership in issues that involve “cost, quality, process, schedule, and people."
- We are participating in the development of new products and new or improved processing, contributing to cost reductions and the continuance of operations.
- Utilize Lean manufacturing knowledge and skills to lead the operational management team and overall workforce.
