Scientist II - AKTA, Protein purification, HPLC, ELISA

6+ month initial contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $52-56/hr (medical benefits available at a cost)
Orion Group is seeking to hire a Scientist for our global pharmaceutical client’s Biologics Protein Purification Team. We are seeking an Associate Scientist to join a talented team developing purification processes for GMP applications. In this laboratory position, the candidate will provide hands-on support for purification development and process scale-up activities in a collaborative and dynamic environment to help advance novel therapies to human clinical studies.
Responsibilities include:
- optimize, and scale-up purification processes for biologics candidates to support early and late stage development
- develop, optimize, and scale-up purification processes
- and evaluate novel advanced separation technologies and techniques
- seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
- opportunities to pursue project relevant leads that are in line with the group’s strategy.
- a high level of productivity in the lab.
- processes to GMP manufacturing for clinical material production
- with contract labs and carry out viral clearance studies
- technical publications, reports, presentations, and regulatory filings including publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and presenting work at scientific conferences
- efficiently, collaboratively, and cross-functionally toward project timelines and goals
- on cross-functional project teams
- and train junior scientists
Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent education and typically 3-5 years of experience, MS or equivalent education and typically 3-5 years of experience, PhD and typically 3+ years of experience
- have hands on experience in protein purification including chromatography separations and filtration operations
- to independently design, execute, and interpret laboratory experiments to answer scientific questions
- be forward-thinking and be able to lead and contribute to scientific/technical discussions
- to independently learn, understand and execute novel/advanced scientific techniques
- have excellent attention to detail and ability to keep detailed written records
- to author publications, technical reports, regulatory documents, and presentations
- strong communication skills including verbal, written, and scientific data presentation
- good understanding of biochemistry and bioprocess engineering concepts
- to work collaboratively within and outside of the group
- proficiency with Microsoft Office software, ability to learn new software applications
Preferred Skills:
- with at least 3+ years experience is highly preferred for this role
- in writing methods and operating AKTA chromatographic instruments (such as AKTA Avant, AKTA Purifier, AKTA Pure, AKTA Ready or similar)
- a strong understanding of analytical techniques, such as HPLC and ELISA
- hands on experience with monoclonal antibody or antibody-like molecule purification at GMP, pilot and/or laboratory scale
- scientific aptitude through authorship of peer-reviewed publications
- a strong understanding of statistical analysis
