Job Description

The Bioassay Development department at AbbVie in South San Francisco, CA, is looking for a Scientist II to contribute to the development and assessment of new oncology and immunology drugs. The selected candidate will become part of the Biologics Analytical Research and Development team, with a track record in developing novel biologic drugs and successful BLA submissions. This role offers exposure to diverse drug development tasks, collaboration with various teams, and growth opportunities in your scientific career.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize cell-based functional assays and target-binding potency assays crucial for therapeutic antibodies, ADCs, multi-specific biologics, and novel antibody variants.
  • Collaborate with Analytical Research and Development teams for molecular characterization and work closely with Discovery, CMC, QC, and other departments.
  • Conduct potency testing to support drug development and IND submissions.
  • Validate and transfer potency methods to external partners and prepare technical documents for regulatory submissions.
  • Introduce new techniques, experiment with different technologies, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Degree in biology, biochemistry, or related fields with at least 7 years (BS) or 5 years (MS) of industry experience.
  • Expertise in binding potency assays like ELISA, flow cytometry, and other platforms.
  • Experience with cell-based assay methodologies and mammalian cell culture.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software like PRISM, PLA, etc.
  • Prior exposure to biologics, monoclonal antibodies, or protein therapeutics is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with potency assay optimization and troubleshooting is a bonus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to adapt in team environments.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and adaptable individuals are preferred.
