Lumber Yard Operations Manager

The Operations Manager oversees all facility operations at our Sanford Lumber location. Responsible for safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory and associated metrics including TIR, cost of quality, and Labor margins. The goal for this position is to support our value proposition by safely delivering quality products to our customers when they need them at the lowest cost possible. The following description details the duties. These duties include but are not limited to the following functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall operations, delivery, purchasing, and inventory control of the location.
- Facility safety tracking, performance, and root-cause to ensure our employees do not get injured.
- Coordinates a shipping/delivery department that gets the products to the job site when the customer wants them, at the lowest cost possible through logistics planning and inventory management.
- Works with order entry for coordination of scheduling and maximization of schedule adherence.
- Motivates employees, maintains a productive workforce, and trains successor management. Reviews and approves wage and salary increases and establishes objectives and performance measures.
- Recommends capital improvements in view of forecasted demand for various products, efficiency of current equipment, etc. Institutes a cost-effective vehicle and equipment maintenance program. Reports obsolete equipment/facilities and submits recommendations regarding replacements or improvements.
- Obtains feedback on customer satisfaction.
- Responsible for budget accountability and reporting as it pertains to the financial goals of the company. Works to establish standard cost, operating budgets, and acceptable inventory levels. Monitors expenses and creates new methods to improve each location's financial performance.
- Participates in daily, weekly, monthly, and annual planning process as appropriate.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective mariner in accordance with established company policies to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency/effectiveness.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Qualifications
- Must have prior experience in building materials industry.
- Lumberyard background including demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- Four years related managerial experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills.
- Proven ability to delegate responsibilities effectively.
- High comfort level working in a diverse environment.
- Works well with upper management as well as subordinates.
Working conditions
- Job requires some extended hours, as needed, to accomplish job requirements.
- Job requires working in manufacturing/warehouse environment which includes high temperatures and humidity.
- Job requires working in and around machinery and associated safety risks.
- Job requires interaction with all levels of the organization including President, Director of Operations, General Manager, Director of Sales, and all their direct reports (as needed).
- Job requires interaction with customers to resolve issues.
