Purpose

As the Small Business and Workforce Manager at the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, you will collaborate closely with small and medium-sized businesses and partner agencies to support their goals. Additionally, you will work with workforce partners to create pathways to employment in our city and the region's growing industries by ensuring the right linkages are made.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Work with the CEO to implement the Chamber ED and grant strategy, particularly in the area of support for Oakland’s small business community.

Organize and curate the Chamber’s small business outreach efforts including convenings, trainings, and implementation of Small Business Council (SBC) objectives.

Staff the Chamber’s Small Business Council and coordinate educational programming, power hours and workforce convenings.

Participate in meetings of broad sets of stakeholders to encourage engagement and investment to further the education and workforce development agenda in the East Bay Region.

Support the development and implementation of the Chamber’s monthly economic development forums and annual economic development summit.

Work with the Policy Manager to implement the Chamber ED strategy, particularly in the area of support for Oakland’s small business community.

Work with Membership Coordinator to support Chamber existing membership.

Act as a liaison to partner organizations, community leadership, committees and/or content-specific workgroups for small business projects and initiatives.

Develop assessments, action plans and other needed tools to ensure deliverables are met.

Various administrative activities to support your work plan.


Education, Skills and Experience


The following qualifications are required:

· Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.

· Strong customer service skills and knowledge of business/office operations.

· Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.

· Demonstrated respect for and ability to work with diverse populations.

· Passion for small business growth and development.

· Experience planning meetings, conferences and training sessions with both small and large groups.

· Experience with Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to solve practical problems and work independently, exercising good judgment.

· Demonstrated experience handling multiple projects and prioritizing successfully.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a collegial environment.

· Ability to work under pressure to meet scheduled deadlines.

· Ability to maintain confidential nature of data and information.

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

· A minimum of one year of program or admin support experience in business/economic development or the private sector.

· Experience in supporting complex and diverse projects.

· Experience copyediting or proofreading.

· Experience with web development or social media strategy.

· Knowledge and experience working with the small business community in Oakland and the East Bay.
