We are seeking a Quality Assurance Sensory Technician in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. This role receives guidance and direct supervision from a Quality Assurance Manager.


Federated Group, Inc. is a private brand sales and marketing group. As a brand owner, Federated has more than 90 years’ experience growing food brands through innovative programs and services that address the ever-changing needs of our customers and their consumers.


The Sensory Technician will conduct sensory and analytical evaluations of food and non-edible products. Gather and record sensory data during evaluations. Perform basic data analysis and report findings related to sensory attributes. May review Food Safety Audits for regulatory compliance. Assist with consumer concerns. As part of this role, you will have the opportunity to write and revise product specifications for private brands. Submit and track items for approval in state specific Women, Infant and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition programs. Organize samples in the QA lab including unboxing, sorting and entering the samples in the tracking system.


A successful candidate will have:


  • Strong sensory acuity (taste, smell)
  • Ability to taste a wide variety of food and beverage products
  • Familiarity with product attributes and characteristics preferred 
  • Attention to detail with the ability to notice subtle differences in sensory attributes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly describe sensory experiences and results
  • Knowledge of QA methodologies and standards in the food industry a plus
  • Experience with label regulatory review a plus
  • Bachelor of Science preferably in Food Science, Food Technology preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with chemical analysis, such as tests for Ph, Acids, Salts, Viscosity, Fats, FFA
  • Experience with FDA/USDA regulatory compliance a plus
  • Highly motivated, ability to successfully manage multiple priorities with limited day-to-day direction, coupled with the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Collaborate with in-house cross functional teams to enhance the service level of the organization
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, keep accurate records and draw valid conclusion
  • Must be able to travel 15% or less; to include overnight travel
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Proficient in personal computer skills and Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
