Safety Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The Safety Engineer assists in the implementation of Safety policies, programs, and procedures to ensure a safe work environment for all employees, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports implementation of BELL’s Safety Manual and monitors compliance with applicable policies, procedures, standards, regulations, and laws.
- Works with project team to develop, implement, and update site-specific safety plan.
- Facilitates, monitors, and supports management practices and communication aimed at achieving a culture focused on safety.
- Performs site safety inspections and takes appropriate actions to stop unsafe work. Documents hazards found during site safety inspections through safety management software and ensures all issues are communicated, addressed, and resolved timely.
- Develops and maintains documentation for emergency planning.
- Leads implementation and coordination of site safety committee.
- Develops, conducts, and tracks jobsite safety orientations for all persons accessing project site.
- Coordinates and monitors project team and trade partner safety inspection activities.
- Recognizes and encourages safe actions and conditions through effective interaction and feedback.
- Exemplifies being a trusted advisor by communicating safety tips and best practices to project team and trade partners.
- Conducts site walks to observe, learn, and work with project team and grow safety culture.
- Ensures implementation of trade-specific safety plans and Safe Start meetings to confirm compliance with all aspects of safety by all team members and trade partners.
- Tracks and records all health and safety incidents and assists with or conducts incident investigations to identify causal factors and necessary preventive actions.
- Assists with all onsite injuries, required documentation, and case management.
- Maintains a safe work atmosphere by building relationships with clients, subcontractors, co-workers, and management.
- Advises Project Managers and Superintendents with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation, and safe material or substance utilization.
- Reviews, monitors, and provides feedback on work plans and activities of each trade partner for safety-related concerns.
- Accompanies all clients, partners, and regulatory agency personnel on jobsite inspections and visits.
- Assists project team with planning for special events (e.g., Safety Week, Topping Out, etc.)
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum required – Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, or related field.
- Minimum required – One (1) year safety experience in commercial construction or related field.
- Industry training/certification preferred – CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, or CIH.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
- Previous experience using Viewpoint & Bluebeam preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Public speaking.
- Strong teamwork orientation and leadership skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality at all times.
