Position: Commercial Lines Producer

Reports to: Principal Agent

Department: Commercial Lines Department


Overall Responsibilities


Commercial lines producers are responsible for the production of new commercial lines policies (workers comp, business auto, BOP, property, general liability, professional lines, inland marine etc).  This position is also responsible for the renewal of, retention and cross selling of their own customers. However, policy maintenance of their policies is handled by the Commercial CSR.


Specific Responsibilities


  1. Quote, process and follow up on their own new business trailing documents/outstanding compliance requirements as well as e-mails from underwriting distributed by CSR
  2. Seek referrals from existing customers and centers of influence
  3. Update customers contact information in Epic
  4. Communicate with Principal Agent any problems with underwriting or dissatisfied customers
  5. Cross sell and upsell customers
  6. Requote their customers complaining about price with other companies
  7. Utilize Epic to facilitate follow ups and document conversations with customers
  8. Any change requests or certificate of insurance requests on commercial policies should be referred to the commercial CSR
  9. Follow up on outstanding forms/signatures for yourself.
  10. Follow up on quotes in Epic (See Quote Process)
  11. Create X-Dates list (several thousand prospects will be provided by Principal agent but contact information will need to be udpated)
  12. Call a minimum of 100 Prospects per week

Nature and Scope


A commercial lines producer is expected to discharge their duties in a manner that is always consistent with the customer’s best interest.  When explaining coverages to a client, a producer should be cognizant that customers are not familiar with insurance terminology, and as such, a producer should use common everyday jargon when doing so would not compromise the scope of coverage. The producer is expected to project themselves as a professional at all times.  A producer is expected to maintain accurate records and up to date files for documenting purposes.  The producer should possess strong written and oral communication skills, be well organized and exhibit a willingness to pursue professional studies.
