Provides hands on industrial control system expertise and technical leadership in control system engineering and support of Power Generation Control Systems along with all associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation. The role will require excellence as an individual contributor as well as working as part of a larger team. Operational Technology Equipment may include (but not limited to): Emerson, GE, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Wonderware, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and Siemens.



  • Design, develop, and implement control systems for power plant processes, machinery, and equipment.
  • Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems, and other automation equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of control systems to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Oversee Operational Technology (OT) software & hardware management program to include acceptance testing and deployment of upgrades and patches on a controlled schedule.
  • Manage/Lead projects, provide controls engineering support in parallel, and oversee vendor/contractor support when needed.
  • Perform cyber security risk assessments, conduct risk assessments, & compliance analysis of OT systems.
  • Conduct and maintain ongoing threat analysis and risk assessment processes to proactively identify and mitigate potential security risks for OT systems.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Assists power plant personnel on maintenance, troubleshooting, and operations of electrical and control systems and equipment. Plant assistance during startup and operation can include after hours and weekends as needed to maintain system reliability.
  • Document control system designs, changes, and maintenance activities for future reference.
  • Perform due diligence for evaluation of control system and instrumentation specifications for projects.
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to our customers, the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in software/controls/electrical engineering or equivalent or related field, plus 2 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Detail-oriented with a focus on precision in control system design and troubleshooting.

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Bachelor of Science Degree.

 

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Professional Engineer license in the State of Arkansas.
  • Experience directly related to Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) at power plants or related heavy industrial applications.
  • Experience with Industrial Control Systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and SCADA systems and associated control system devices, computers, communications, networks, endpoint devices, and instrumentation.
  • Experience and foundation with Ethernet network switches and serial digital communications, including third party datalink protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of power plant controls, steam turbine control systems, combustion turbine control systems, balance of plant control systems.
  • Strong computer skills foundation as relates to operating systems, controls system software, and communications software.
  • Understanding of server virtualization, routing, and switching.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices in industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best-practices (such as IEC 62443) and NERC-CIP requirements.
