BOMA and BOMI continue to grow their offerings of courses and certifications and continue to support developing policy related to support commercial real estate professionals and assist them in furthering their careers. To that end, BOMA International is hiring a Manager, Codes and Standards to support our Advocacy team in building code development and management, and other code-related activities. 

 

Position Summary 

Reporting to the Vice President of Advocacy and Building Codes, the Manager, Codes and Standards will be a part of a seven-member team responsible for pushing forward on a state and federal legislative, regulatory and codes agenda that will lead to positive outcomes for the commercial real estate sector and the built environment. The Advocacy Department covers a wide array of priority issues, including energy and sustainability, tax and finance, workforce development, and emergency preparedness. The Manager, Codes and Standards manages all codes-related activities, including overseeing codes development, communicating the impact existing and proposed codes have on the industry, and ensuring that BOMA members and local associations receive exceptional and timely resources and assistance. 

 

This role’s dynamic nature requires keen research, analysis, and writing skills, and exemplary project management and organizational expertise. The ideal candidate will create and distribute effective content related to BOMA International’s priority issues, be able to pivot seamlessly between priorities, and excel in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Analytical skills are imperative for monitoring and reporting BOMA’s advocacy and building codes efforts. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze current and proposed codes and develop positions and related resources on priority issues. 
  • Participate fully in ICC and other code development processes (in person). 
  • Produce relevant communications materials including e-newsletter articles and website content. 
  • Manage the work of the BOMA International Codes Committee. 
  • Work with the BOMA International advocacy staff and the codes and standards consultant. 
  • Provide support as needed for the work of local codes committees and respond to requests for assistance from BOMA members. 
  • Assist with preparation of materials and meetings for BOMA’s annual conferences. 
  • Assist with additional support tasks for the department as needed. 
  • Ensure stakeholders are involved and informed of current priority issues. 
  • Additional responsibilities as needed. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience + High School diploma. 
  • 2+ years of experience in related fields such as architecture, civil engineering, safety/compliance, sustainability, permitting/licensing/accreditation.  
  • Strong aptitude for research, analysis and writing.  
  • Demonstrated interest in policy and advocacy related to the built environment. 
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and to thrive in a fast-paced environment that involves working on multiple content projects simultaneously. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Demonstrated Proficiency with Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Keen attention to detail and organization skills to support team goals and initiatives. 
  • An ability to develop strong relationships and build buy-in with a wide variety of employees, members, and stakeholders. 
  • A passion for providing superior customer experiences. 

 

Preferred Skills and Personal Characteristics: 

  • Committed and energetic individual eager to problem-solve and tackle new projects. 
  • Building Code experience is preferred but not required. 
  • 1-year of related work experience with calendar management, document creation and editing, and event and travel coordination and support. 
  • Collaborative, flexible, and open to others’ ideas on a hard-working team. 
  • Committed to constant learning. 
  • A passion for providing superior customer experiences. 
  • Interest in the Commercial Building industry is preferred. 
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. 

 

Location: 

BOMA is located in Washington, D.C. and operates on a hybrid work schedule with the team in-office three days a week. Given the collaborative nature of this position, we are only considering candidates who are in or willing to relocate to the Washington, D.C. area. In addition, there will be an occasional need to work additional days in the office with limited advance notice. 

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. Additionally, BOMA provides a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to:
