Yahara Materials is currently hiring for a full-time Heavy Equipment Technician. We are family owned and operated, specializing in surface mining and processing of limestone rock and sand and gravel. Yahara continuously updates its equipment with the latest technologies in processing plants and mobile equipment, keeping up with industry demands. This role requires meticulous attention to details, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards. Providing his/her own tools the candidate must be self-motivated and have a strong desire to perform in a professional demeanor with excellent work habits. S/he must have experience working on a variety of equipment including loaders, dozers, excavators and dump trucks, primarily, Caterpillar and Cummins.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines and heavy equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Execute repairs on diesel engines and heavy equipment, including engine overhauls, transmission repairs, brake replacements, and hydraulic system repairs with little oversight.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential issues and prevent breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed using company specified software and systems in place.
  • Always adhere to safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others, this includes completing specific training according to company policies.
  • Collaborate with other team members to prioritize workload and ensure timely completion of repairs.
  • Stay up to date on advancements in diesel engine technology and heavy equipment maintenance techniques.
  • This position is a 50/50 split of work done in a controlled shop environment and within the Yahara field operations.

Qualifications

  • Associates or technical degree in diesel mechanics.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Ability to interpret oil samples.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality work.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift over 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge tools and application of basic welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Valid driver’s license with experience operating service truck equipped with crane.
  • Able to pass Department of Transportation drug screening.
  • MSHA training required.
