Optomi, in partnership with our telecom client, are seeking an Infrastructure Design Technician for a 1 year contract. This role can be remote but prefer someone in the CLT area who can go onsite on occasion/as needed.



Position Overview: The role is responsible for fulfilling internal network orders and designing circuit paths within the network. This includes creating accurate design layouts that reflect a deep understanding of the network infrastructure, as well as documenting network issues and maintenance activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and redesign Layer 1 circuit layouts in the TIRKS database, ensuring accurate representation of network builds, including DWDM, SONET, TDM, Ethernet, and IP solutions across the network.
  • Address inventory discrepancies in line with the EIRG/FIRG database and job aids.
  • Collaborate with the Planning and Engineering teams to develop and provision network equipment and infrastructure circuits that meet customer requirements.
  • Understand fiber cable configurations related to the above network solutions.
  • Maintain and update network infrastructure records in all relevant systems and applications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in efficiently designing and processing internal network orders.
  • Process orders within Service Level Agreements (SLAs), ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality standards.
  • Manage the assigned queue with strong time management skills, consistently prioritizing customer satisfaction.
  • Exhibit expertise in complex provisioning processes, technologies, and delivery methods.
  • Apply knowledge of network equipment, including solutions for switched and special access, Optical Ethernet, local loop, and long-haul transport.
  • Provide technical support to both internal teams and external customers, assisting with engineering, installation, and testing required to complete network orders successfully.
  • Take on project-based tasks to support organizational growth and network development needs.


Ideal Candidate Traits:

  • Experience with optical networking equipment such as Ciena, Fujitsu, and Alcatel/Lucent.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications inventory management systems like TIRKS, OMNIvue, WMS, WFMT, and BOSS.
  • Knowledge of inside plant fiber optic wiring design, construction, and operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams while demonstrating excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Self-driven with a strong sense of accountability and the ability to meet KPI expectations independently.
  • Skilled in following established procedures to fulfill order requirements accurately and efficiently.
  • Committed to continuous learning and professional development, actively improving job skills through training and available learning resources.
  • Comprehensive technical understanding of voice, data, and Ethernet products, along with staying updated on new products, product changes, and design rules.
  • Expertise in both on-net and off-net routing design requirements.
  • Proficiency in using multiple design systems, including both legacy and next-generation platforms.
  • Quick to assess challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring that both entrance and exit criteria are met in line with customer expectations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience designing infrastructure circuits within a telecommunications network.


Physical Demands:

  • This is a remote position. The candidate will be required to work from a computer, participate in conference calls, and provide regular updates on individual circuit statuses.
