Summary:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for operating the organization's IT systems, networks, and

applications, and to ensure the stable operation of these systems and network connections as well as providing supplemental support to an existing desktop support role. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software and communications links. The person will also analyze and resolve end user software programs and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion and provide peer and end user training where required. The Systems Engineer I should be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily

  1. Maintain and administer computer networks and related computer environments including, computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  2. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  3. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary.
  4. Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software.
  5. Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
  6. Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
  7. Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and
  8. hardware.
  9. Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement.
  10. Confer with end-users about how to solve existing system problems.
  11. Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  12. Design, configure and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system.
  13. software.
  14. Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records.
  15. Load computer tapes and disks and install software and printer paper or forms.
  16. Train people in computer system use.
  17. Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.
  18. Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  19. Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to facilitate purchases.
  20. Provide technical support for voice services and equipment, such as private branch exchange, voice mail system, and telecom system.
  21. Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
  22. Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading trade articles, or taking classes, and implement or recommend the implementation of new technologies.
  23. Provide first, second, and third-level support to Help Desk, Systems Administrators, and Application Administrators
  24. Provide desktop support including purchasing hardware, setup and configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  25. Maintain Exchange environment.
  26. Maintain published applications and published desktop environments.
  27. Provision Physical/Virtual Servers and storage in support of operational requirements.
  28. Provide basic/intermediate firewall, switching, and routing administration.
  29. Maintain SCCM/SCOM environment to include OSD, software distribution, patch management, and reporting.
  30. Perform security analyses and audits of developed or packaged software components.
  31. Provide inter-departmental support to system administrators and end-users.
  32. Assist Enterprise Solutions Engineers with infrastructure maintenance and operations.
  33. Interact with vendors and contractors with manager consent, continuously test and validate business continuity and disaster recovery strategies to include storage, network, and system backups.
  34. Train users in system operation and maintenance.
  35. Provide post-implementation support through service level agreements with staff and vendors.
  36. Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  37. Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
  38. Provide on-call technical support 24x7x365; participation in the existing on-call rotation is mandatory.
