The Radiologic Technologist performs various Radiology examinations and Fluoroscopic procedures on patients of various ages.  Performs a variety of procedures using radiation generating equipment and associated imaging systems to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for Image and equipment Quality Assurance as well as Radiation Safety and other safety protocols. Provides age specific and developmental care to Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescence, Adults and Geriatric.

 

  • Follows the Radiology Department procedures and protocols.
  • Performs Radiologic and Fluoroscopy examinations according to established protocols in a timely manner.
  • Correctly identifies patient.
  • Correlates patient’s medical history and clinical status with Imaging examination ordered.
  • Obtains pertinent patient clinical history and Radiologist’s required patient history. Documents history in Electronic Medical Record and /or RIS system.
  • Establishes patient rapport. Provides patient with an explanation of procedure and equipment. Allows time for patient to ask questions. Answers patient questions in a manner which is understandable. Speaks with patient to calm their concerns and reduce anxiety to ensure patient understands and cooperates. Provides home going instructions.
  • Ensures patient comfort and safety before, during and after the examination.
  • Prepares patient for radiographic procedure by removing clothing, jewelry or other items from the radiographic field; positioning the patient; adjusting immobilization devices; proving comfort devices , moving equipment into specified position and making other necessary adjustments.
  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting and printing images through PACS. Immediately reports any malfunctions to Image Management Specialist and /or PACS Support Services and Director. Attempts to troubleshoot problems using PACS Help Manual and the vendor’s on-line support.
  • Enters required information into PACS
  • Completes accurate billing via RIS and/or EMR. Ensures billing charges drop
  • Rotates and works in the front office as required for coverage.
  • Performs ECG examinations.
  • Produces Images of Optimal Quality for interpretation with accuracy and without delay.
  • Ensures operation of all Radiology equipment by initiating service, calling for repairs, completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, utilizing service company’s support lines and other methods. 
  • Documents and clearly communicates equipment problems with the follow up action to co-workers from shift to shift, Image Management Specialist, Director and others as necessary.
  • Maintains competency in equipment operations and applications.
  • Maintains Competency in all Radiologic Procedures
  • Maintains competency in ECG .
  • Maintains care of all equipment.
  • Reports immediately any malfunctions to Image Management Specialist and /or PACS Support Services. Attempts to troubleshoot problems using PACS Help Manual and vendor on-line support.
  • Adheres to the Imaging Department’s Quality Assurance protocols and documents all quality control activities, equipment and procedural calibrations.
  • Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Keeps documentation current in designated logs and manuals. 
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Completes designated shift duties.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of two-year accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Basic computer skills including typing/keyboarding and ability to proficiently use a variety of software applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent telephone etiquette
  • Self-motivation essential.

 

Preferred:

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting.
  • Knowledge or education in the fundamentals of customer service.
  • Venipuncture experience
  • Experience in administering IV Contrast Material.
  • Self –motivation
  • Education in conflict management.
  • ECG skills

 

 Certifications and Licenses Requirements:

 Required:

  • AART Certification in Radiography
  • Current Ohio License as Radiographer.
  • Current BLS* Certification.

 

*BLS certification is required upon hire. All certifications required in this job description must be maintained by the employee throughout their employment.
