Our client in the Detroit area is seeking a Plant Accounting Manager on a direct-hire basis. The Plant Accounting Manager will be responsible for supporting the plant and up to 30% of duties will be finance related. The Plant Accounting Manager will serve as a liaison between other departments and managers for assistance but will not have any direct reports. The Plant Accounting Manager will be responsible for but not limited to:
• Collaborates with corporate finance staff to oversee the closing process at the plant at the end of each month.
• Conducts monthly analysis of variances and trends, providing reports comparing actual results to budgeted figures. Works alongside the Plant management team to identify opportunities for cost savings, operational efficiencies, and best practices. Prepares monthly financial statements and reports, and handles ad hoc requests as needed.
• Manages and prepares monthly analyses for all General Ledger accounts at the plant, promptly investigating any unusual or unexpected variances.
• Oversees monthly forecasting, annual budgeting, and the development of five-year strategic plans. Takes the lead in budget preparation and ongoing adjustments throughout the year in collaboration with the plant management group.
• Oversees the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) process at the plant level, including assisting in the preparation of capital authorization requests, forecasting CAPEX spending, monitoring project expenses, and ensuring timely capitalization of capital projects. Updates Fixed Asset Ledgers as necessary.
• Works with corporate finance staff at the head office and local plant management to: (a) establish and monitor system controls, (b) develop procedures for enhancing existing systems, and (c) ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Provides support to the plant management team with shared services.
• Coordinates the preparation of materials for both external and internal audits.
• Attends daily operations meetings to provide comprehensive management support. May also offer month-end and related accounting assistance for small Terminal-like locations when required.
The Plant Accounting Manager should have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. Must be willing to work in a Plant and communicate with field employees. This opportunity will be hybrid after training.
