SUMMARY

The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for the technical and effective success of process and quality planning. Major objectives include management of quality resources to mitigate technical and regulatory uncertainty through all aspects of the manufacturing process. The QE champions the APQP process and assures compliance to customer specifications and governmental regulations through robust quality planning. Responsibilities include ownership of the quality plan and assurance that all products manufactured meet all customer and regulatory requirements. Projects are expected to be completed within budget constraints.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to...

  • Supports Program Management Team during estimating with project feasibility assessments.
  • Performs follow-up with Program Manager/Project Engineer to ensure the manufacturing processes is in compliance with applicable requirements and regulations.
  • Read and interpret the blueprint (GD&T) to determine the critical portions of a part and process accordingly. Adapt process plan as required to meet specifications.
  • Ensure a thorough Quality Plan is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Ownership of product certification packages, including review and acceptance of sub-tier certifications and final inspection records.
  • Support Program Management in preparation for and execution of customer-driven inspection activities, including First Article Inspection Reports and on-site Source Inspection.
  • Actively provides support to manufacturing during both product launch and on-going production.
  • Read and understand industry and customer-specific specifications related to part manufacturing constraints and requirements; as well as applicable government regulations.
  • Champion the APQP process to develop a robust quality plan which supports all customer requirements and specifications.
  • Ownership of the quality plan. The plan must include specific information for compliance to specifications as well as part-specific work instructions and inspection reporting documents
  • Develop thorough inspection plans for verification of final part compliance
  • Support nonconforming material processes, including root cause and corrective action analyses
  • Support and ensure that company policies and procedures are compliant with applicable quality system requirements for NADCAP and AS9100D
  • Assist in quality system audits for QMS certifications
  • Participate in internal QMS audits
  • Assist in the resolution of both internal and external quality concerns.
  • Maintains professional, cooperative relationships with employees, suppliers, outsourced personnel and customers
  • Complies with corporate policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee sits, stands, uses hands, arms and fingers to perform routine tasks. Normal vision and hearing is required.
  • Most of the QE’s time is split between the Engineering Office and the Manufacturing Floor. May also include some travel to vendor or customer’s sites.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. May consider five (5) or more years of directly relevant work experience in lieu of the degree. May also consider relevant training, certifications and/or professional designations in lieu of the degree.
  • Minimum 3 years in a Quality role in a production/engineering environment.
  • Must have fluency in English, reading, writing and speaking.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Experience in documentation-intensive manufacturing helpful (e.g. aerospace, medical, energy)
  • AS9100 QMS and internal auditing experience a plus.
  • Requires strong organizational skills including the ability to effectively manage multiple programs, prioritize tasks and complete assignments within expected time frames.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and conversions.
  • Ability to work with statistical data and apply concepts such as whole numbers and fractions, ratios and proportions and work with measurement devices.
  • Ability to work with and convert units of production and convert those units to dollars.
  • Ability to accurately identify and analyze trends.
  • Ability to understand requests for proposals and convert those requests into the terms, standards and units of production and measurement utilized within the EMI organization.


Other Skills and Abilities

  • Technical experience with engineered products.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – both orally and in writing.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency to effectively utilize Microsoft Office.
  • Production and manufacturing industry knowledge, including understanding of all cost centers in an operation such as: product costing, overhead absorption and measurement processes.
  • Proven ability in the engineered products production industry as it applies to planning and scheduling.
  • Significant experience with management planning and goal setting.
  • High level of ability with database, spreadsheets or other analysis tools.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with human issues in vendors, peers and particularly customers.
  • Ability to create and maintain team building relationships within the organization.
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to recognize and respond to changing priorities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a multi-task environment.
