Light Horse Therapeutics is seeking a talented, motivated, and creative Principal Scientist to join the Discovery Biology group. The candidate will contribute to strategy and implementation in early discovery programs for high value, challenging oncology targets. The candidate will also have the opportunity to drive discovery programs and contribute broadly to building an understanding of novel target biology in a dynamic start-up environment that employs cutting-edge tools in functional genomics and proteomic technologies.


Job Description:


  • Lead and contribute to early discovery strategy for high value protein targets. Includes design and development of small molecule discovery approaches, leveraging techniques from multiple disciplines
  • Design, develop and execute screening funnels using cellular and/or biochemical assays for discovery of small molecule inhibitors
  • Contribute to target selection and validation for the early discovery pipeline
  • Develop approaches to understand the mechanistic biology of challenging oncology targets and employ innovative strategies to leverage these findings for assay development
  • Communicate science and strategy effectively in internal meetings and prepare written reports of data and literature analyses
  • Position requires benchwork responsibilities

Required Qualifications:


  • PhD in Molecular/Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or related field with 4+ years of biopharmaceutical industry research experience.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing small molecule screening and drug discovery strategies in early and/or hit-to-lead discovery programs
  • Strong experience in cell-based assay development and mechanistic target biology research
  • Practical experience with small molecule inhibitors and developing medium to high-throughput in vitro and cell-based assays
  • Experience with protein-protein interactions is an advantage
  • Expertise in transcriptional regulation is an advantage, including ChIP assays and ChiP-/ ATAC-sequencing.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize options, anticipate challenges and accomplish goals in a fast-paced research environment
  • Management of direct reports is an advantage
  • The individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation and an eagerness to challenge and meet aggressive timelines
  • The ability to work closely with other group members within teams is essential
