Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Drug Discovery team and contribute to efforts in small molecule lead discovery. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing cell-based and biochemical assays to understand the potency, efficacy, and mechanism of action of our lead compounds. These experiments include the techniques of HTRF, ALPHALISA, ELISA, Western blot, imaging, etc. It is also expected that this scientist will lead an associate scientist and may guide the efforts of other less experienced staff and contract employees. The Senior Scientist will also participate in and potentially lead drug discovery project teams.
This position is a full-time, permanent role with a biotech company located in South San Francisco, CA, and requires onsite presence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize semi-automated and manual protocols for the evaluation of compound function in diverse sample types, including cell lysates, tissue extracts, and purified biomolecules, to advance discovery projects.
- Lead and/or interface with project teams to ensure timely analyses and follow up experiment designs.
- Collaborate/ manage internal scientists and external Contract Research Organizations (CROs), oversee outsourced experiments, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality data.
- Assign and execute scientific tasks associated with hit finding, lead optimization, mechanism of action determination, etc.
- Make detailed observations and analyze data to provide an interpretation of results.
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and / or quantitative analyses.
- Present data in group and project team meetings.
- Produce competent, reproducible results to a high technical standard.
- Maintain accurate and well-organized laboratory records and notebooks.
- Stay current on the latest scientific advancements and trends in molecular biology and oncology research.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to ensure accurate and consistent recording of experimental methods, materials, and results.
- Analyze experimental results, form conclusions, and recommend future experiments.
- Prepare written reports and presentations summarizing experimental and project status.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, dynamic work environment.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in designing and developing automated, medium- and high-throughput cell-based and biochemical assays to support lead optimization and/or mechanism of action studies.
- Demonstrated track record with a variety of techniques in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry such as mammalian cell culture, transient and stable transfection, western blot, quantitative RT-PCR, ELISA assays, enzyme assays, etc.
- Proficient in utilizing a variety of liquid handlers and plate readers.
- Experience in people management is required.
- Familiarity with small molecule Oncology drug discovery is preferred.
- Understanding of CDD or other compound activity databases is preferred.

Education
- Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry with 3+ years of relevant work experience preferably in drug discovery research.
