What you will be doing:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is the project team member responsible for the developing/coordinating steering ball screw design and development for regional applications.
  • Leading customer communication for ball screw design and development
  • Design and develop core ball screw sub-systems
  • Develop functional specification of ball screw sub-system
  • Design ball screw to meet durability, packaging, NVH, etc. requirements
  • Generate components prints, tolerance for function and appropriate manufacturing processes
  • Perform (ball screw & bearing) sizing calculations (MESYS and Excel programs) for static and dynamic capacity based on customer (OEM) technical specifications.
    • Review post-test teardown of components and work with suppliers to evaluate
    • Responsible for DRBFM and DFMEA for all associated R-EPS components
    • Optimize cost and robustness of design based on known manufacturing methods
    • Create DFMEA's, development and validation test to assess design robustness
    • Monitor / approve design changes for additional applications of a given architecture
    • Support purchasing with supplier select
    • Coordinate design / prototyping activities with supply base
    • Track and coordinate development with interfacing components and against program deliveries
    • Support new pursuit - Review customer specifications and complete compliance matrix and technical design review material

What you'll need to be successful:
Essential:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required, Master preferred
  • 3+ years' experience in Design/Development/CAE
  • Strong Understanding of vehicle steering systems desired including Rack & Pinion and Rack EPS Systems
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is highly preferred
  • Possesses knowledge of steering and chassis systems and various mechanic/hydraulic principles
  • Experience in CATIA v5 is preferred
  • Experience with product development is preferred
  • Understanding of chassis sub-systems and the components is preferred
