Senior Transmission Analyst


About the Client

Our client, a prominent player in the energy sector, is seeking a Senior Transmission Analyst to join their team. This full-time position is available in Dallas, Texas. The company is known for its excellence in natural gas and power marketing, power management, development and acquisition of generation assets, and operation of power plants.


Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and managing analysis of transmission systems of the bulk electric grid using power flow models in commercially available software tools.


The role involves applying analysis results to determine site location, generating capacity, and equipment configuration for new power generation facilities.


Additionally, the Analyst will prepare and manage grid interconnection applications, track study processes, engage with transmission owners, and analyze study results to inform project prioritization.


Essential Job Functions

  • Transmission System Analysis: Develop and utilize power flow modeling tools, including steady state, short circuit, and stability analysis software.
  • Competitor and Scenario Analysis: Perform competitor analysis, conduct scenario analysis, and prepare risk assessments related to key transmission issues.
  • Commercial Development Advice: Advise commercial development teams on the impact of RTO/TO tariff rules, business practices, and modeling methods on project configuration and risk.
  • Interconnection and Transmission Requests: Complete generator interconnection and transmission service requests for development projects and existing assets.
  • Due Diligence: Work with commercial leads to perform due diligence on transmission matters for development projects and potential acquisitions.
  • Industry Representation: Participate in industry organizations to represent the company’s views and opinions, enhancing asset development, acquisition, and marketing opportunities.
  • Subject-Matter Expertise: Act as a company expert on market-based reliability mechanisms, including security-constrained economic dispatch (SCED) and contingency analysis.
  • Market Evaluation: Evaluate medium and long-term market power pricing for domestic electric transmission systems.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.


Education/Experience/Skills

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of five years of experience in transmission engineering or analysis
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale transmission system power flow models
  • Experience with transmission modeling software such as PSLF, PSSe, TARA, and/or PowerWorld
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and VBA
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, analytical mindset, and questioning attitude
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Strong work ethic and team attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment


Preferred Requirements:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering
  • Familiarity with structured, centrally-cleared electricity markets
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python
  • Familiarity with various power generation technologies, including natural gas-fired combined cycle, wind turbines, PV solar, and battery storage
