R&D Instrument Engineer


The R&D Instruments Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, and manufacturability of robotic medical devices in accordance with the company’s Quality System. The individual in this position will ensure that assigned products are designed to meet customer requirements as well as manufacturability and cost targets. This person may also support the planning and coordination of engineering products, as needed. You must have a strong technical background in the design of device technology to drive the generation of creative design concepts from design inputs, to prototype those concepts, and to evaluate those concepts through sound experimental design. You must work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-functional environment, and must have the capacity to prioritize project activities.


Core Job Responsibilities:

Collaborate cross-functionally on the innovation and development of novel medical instrumentation and systems. Conceptualize and build prototypes for endoscope components and mechanisms using internal or external prototyping capabilities. Develop test methods, design fixturing, and create technical documentation to support engineering studies.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or other related Engineering field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience with proven success in an engineering design role within the medical device industry is required.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting and possession of excellent time management skills are required.
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical design, experience with rapid product development, and strong problem-solving skills are required.
  • CAD experience creating solid models, assemblies, and detailed drawings is required.
  • SolidWorks experience
  • Project lead and/or management experience is highly desired. Experience with catheter shaft design is highly desired.
  • Experience working with ISO 13485 and 14971, GMP guidelines, FDA regulations, medical device design control, and manufacturing scale-up processes is highly desired. In-depth experience bringing products from concept through market release and beyond is highly desired.
  • Experience performing statistical and data analyses is highly desired.
  • A thorough understanding of engineering documentation standards and GD&T is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 10991 standards and test methods, along with sterilization methodologies is preferred
