We are continuing to build a best-in-class technical team in Carlsbad, CA. We are looking for an exceptional Sr. Scientist or Staff Scientist to serve as a technical lead, focused on the early research, tech feasibility and eventual development of automated molecular diagnostic assays. This individual must have a thorough understanding of molecular biology and molecular diagnostic assay development, with relevant wet lab experience and a strong working knowledge of laboratory techniques. This position will be predominantly at the bench.


Your day-to-day responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:

  • Oversees projects within laboratory and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities
  • Independently conceptualizes and generates simple and complex experimental designs
  • Executes numerous complex laboratory techniques with high degree of technical skill and proficiency 
  • Records and analzyes complex data
  • Draws conclusions and logical next steps based on data generated in the lab (self-generated as well as data from other staff)
  • Contributes more significantly in developing short- or long-term strategic business objectives, leveraging in-depth technical knowledge and current state of the field
  • Contributes significantly to preparation of grant / funding applications
  • Understands landscape of relevent field through patents, publications and other technical sources
  • Possesses high level of knowledge in field(s) relevent to advance current and potential future business / projects in the lab
  • Supervises, mentors and provides leadership to more junior technical staff


Education and Experience:

  • B.S. or similar undergraduate degree in relevant field + >15 yrs relevant experience or
  • MS + > 5 years relevant experience
  • PhD + > 2-5 years relevant experience
  • Sound fundamental knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology
  • Extensive experience at the bench with various nucleic acid extraction, hybridization, amplification and detection methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of quality system regulations (e.g. ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 820, etc.) and processes a plus
  • Strong organizational and good documentation skills
  • Appropriate computer skills (e-mail, word processing, excel, graphing and analytic software)


Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  •  Moderate physical effort. Requires sitting, standing, bending, repetitive precision pipetting, the ability to lift up to 40lbs
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially hazardous materials and situations that require following safety procedures and the use of Personal Protective Equipment
