Controls Project Engineer


As our Controls Project Engineer, you will manage industrial automation projects. This means you will plan, design, organize, and execute PLC and HMI systems projects for OEM machinery end users in the Food & Beverage industry.


You will size and select electrical components, do system layout & design (AutoCAD), and program PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell Allen Bradley). You will also record maintenance and support machine line installations.


Finally, you will keep deadlines and manage customer expectations, providing communications with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to keep the team and the customer on the same page.


There is up to 25% travel for this role.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs and coordinates the electrical design, development, startup, and commissioning of new products or modifications of existing equipment
  • Manage project timelines, deadlines, milestones, deliverables, and customer expectations through proactive communications with all necessary parties.
  • Program and Troubleshoot Rockwell Automation PLCs and HMIs.
  • Communicate effectively with other engineers, suppliers, and logistics personnel to get timeline updates for the client.
  • Design schematics and panel layouts in CAD program (AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Responsible for providing customer assistance with electrical issues on installed machines.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of local and national codes (i.e. UL508, OSHA, NFPA79, ISO13849, etc.) as well as company standards for design and safety.
  • Create company standards and drawings best practices
  • Responsible for the accuracy of design and the quality of the final detailed electrical drawings.
  • Assist with assembly as needed, and service to resolve conflicts, reviews designs, and incorporates suggestions in improvements.
  • Communicates with manufacturing, assembly and service to resolve conflicts, review design, and incorporates suggestions for improvement.
  • Corrects design problems, errors or inaccuracies found in design. Processes non-conforming material reports, engineering change notices, and engineering change requests when required.
  • Participates in the design estimation process, which includes determining the feasibility of design, estimates design times required, assembly time, test time and project costs.
  • Communicates with the documentation department to maintain accuracy of technical information for the customer manuals.
  • Coordinates and performs testing of new technologies.
  • Improve processes and research new methods and software for standardizing electrical design processes and deliverables.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.


Education Or Experience


Requires an Engineering Degree OR an associate's degree with 5 years of direct machine controls (PLC / HMI Programming) experience.
