Job Description

This position is a hands-on job requiring excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills. Application of professional programming knowledge and programming machine controls is a primary function of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements and translate those into programmatic design.
  • Design and program machine control for all types of BEUMER sortation machines, high speed loop sorters and line sorters.
  • Prepare and test PLC hardware for projects.
  • Understand electrical design drawings and specifications as they relate to machine control programming.
  • Work with electrical engineering to define I/O network
  • Work with engineering in selection and test of peripheral equipment.
  • Work with the PC software developers.
  • Participate in in-house testing at any Beumer office of the machine control system.
  • Prepare as-built documentation for every project.
  • Participate in the on-site machine control commissioning.
  • Participate in second-tier software response line.
  • Work with sub-contractors in the controls and electrical area, specifying scope and deliverables and supervising the correct and timely delivery.
  • Create or maintain documentation to optimize general workflow or improve processes
  • Create or maintain training documentation. Provide training for new hires.
  • Participate in R&D projects
  • Participate in the programming of new features or equipment
  • Work with sub-contractors in the controls and electrical area, specifying scope and deliverables and supervising the correct and timely delivery.
  • May be assigned to special projects or required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
  • Participate in interdepartmental design meeting to actively take part in engineering reliable FPP systems
  • In case needed (lack of capacity), support other lines of business as e.g. FPP, BHS, M&M on responsibilities as mentioned above

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of:
    • Advanced machine control concepts
    • Fundamental mathematical techniques
    • Programming of Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs
  • Ability to:
    • Evaluate controls engineering problems.
    • Program machine controls. Controls Engineer II should be able to demonstrate system architecture level of PLC proficiency regardless of the programming platform (Siemens/Allen Bradley), involving integrating multiple disparate systems together and involving network communications.
    • Solve controls issues independently and assist others in solving controls issues
    • Keep abreast of changes in engineering technology.
    • Work as part of the project team.
    • Prepare specifications and documents in accordance with requirements.
    • Investigate technical problems and establish procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.
    • To quickly acquire programming skills for other machine control platforms.
    • Use of computer-based tools for project management and programming.
  • Excellence in time management.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to lead a team of controls personnel
  • Ability to concisely audit, document issues during commissioning, and drive the team to maintain quality

  • Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in EE/CE, or equivalent practical training and experience
  • 8-15 years of Controls Engineering Experience
  • 3-5 years of BEUMER MC Experience
  • English) - Level B2
    • Understands the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
    • interacts with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
    • Produces clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
