SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Tooling Design Engineer position is responsible to design, develop, re-engineer tooling and gating. This position is also responsible for participating in the continuous improvement needs of the plant processes. This position is a visible and responsible role that is accountable to uphold the quality, compliance and standards of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Designs new tooling and gating.
  • Design improvements of existing tooling and gating.
  • Creates models for solidification simulations.
  • Designs trim die tooling.
  • Reviews blueprints for contract review and completes a portion of the Engineering Change Level Review form.
  • Develops tool paths using “SolidCAM” for CNC mills in the RMP Pattern Shop with the goal of making simple patterns and core boxes in-house.
  • Designs tooling and machine fixtures.
  • Design work to support outside tooling builds.
  • And, any additional duties that may be assigned by Management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent computer skills; and, record keeping skills; including Solidworks.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions, blue prints and drawings.
  • Ability to maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
  • Ability to work on a team and cooperate with others; positive attitude.
  • Ability to work without supervision; self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Ability to make decisions, results driven and strong follow through skills.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details; good analytical problem solving ability.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • AS Degree in Engineering or other related discipline; or, 5 years relevant work experience.
  • 5-10 years experience in relevant positions.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; Mini Tab; Auto CAD and Solidworks.
