Key Responsibilities- Design and Development: Provide mechanical design and development of new products or product enhancements for the automotive service tools industry.
- Documentation and Collaboration: Prepare thorough and accurate documentation for release to manufacturing and for internal product design records. Work with manufacturing and service personnel to resolve problems and improve manufacturability and serviceability of products.
- Manufacturing Process Development: Develop or modify manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and quality.
- Value Engineering: Work with other groups on value engineering initiatives to reduce product cost and improve performance of designs.
- Product Knowledge: Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Snap-on's products and their applications.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support for Engineering Computer systems.
- Design and Development of Special Service Tools: Design and develop Special Service Tools in support of customer Tool program.
- 3D Modeling and Drawing: Create 3D Models and 2D Mechanical Drawings (CAD) for new products and product enhancements.
- Tool Requirements and Application Information: Gather tool requirements and application information from customers and internal stakeholders.
- Tooling Concepts and Solutions: Develop tooling concepts and solutions to meet customer needs.
- Prototype Development: Develop tool mock-ups, prototypes (e.g. 3D printing) for testing and validation.
- Prototype Fabrication and Testing: Coordinate with machine shops and other suppliers for prototype fabrication and test and validate tools on vehicles or vehicle subsystems.
- Legacy Tool Documentation: Document legacy tools where existing documentation is deficient.
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a minimum of 2-4+ years relative work experience.
- Experience: Hands-on experience in automotive maintenance and repair is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Must be proficient in the use of the computer for design. Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD experience is preferred.
- Knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge in mechanical design and a basic understanding of complementary technical disciplines, particularly electrical systems and electrical troubleshooting.
- Soft Skills: Able to work with others and with minimal supervision. Must possess excellent communication skills, good time management and organizational skills, good problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to demonstrate initiative.
