DREAM believes that every child deserves the opportunity to experience new and exciting adventures In this position you would be required to safely transport our DREAM youth to and from adventures/field trips. This position would require you to drive youth from all of our sites (3-4 sites with about 20 kids per site) on their respective trip days. Trips can consist of local adventures within the city of Philadelphia or adventures in neighboring counties/states. There are also times when we may need an additional person on hand for programming - if there are times when driving and field trip support isnt needed, you will be supporting on-site programs.

Objectives of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support:

You will safely transport youth to and from adventures while also practicing safe driving habits

You will be a resource of support for all staff, members, and volunteers on the Philly DREAM team both on field trips and in times when no program sites are on a field trip but additional help at local programming is needed.

You will be responsible for coordinating upkeep and maintenance of DREAMs transportation vehicles as necessary.

The Experience of Service as a Summer Camp Driver and Field Trip Support:

You will, on a regular basis, be driving and working youth between the ages of 5 and 14

You will regularly be driving in a sprinter van on small city streets, busy highways, and residential areas.

Its always possible that youth may have questions or cause additional distractions while driving, and so we appreciate your ability to remain calm and level headed throughout the entirety of the trip

You will be engaging with youth throughout their summer programming and serving as a role model to them.

Youll be participating with and coordinating your responsibilities on a weekly basis in collaboration with the Philadelphia leadership staff and Summer Enrichment Coordinators.

This position occurs from June 1, 2022-August 12, 2022. You will be required to meet a minimum of 300 service hours by serving full time hours on Monday-Friday of these weeks.

Required Qualifications:

A clean driving record

Minimum 2 years of driving experience (must have had a driver's license for 2 years).

Commitment to serve as a role model for youth.

A passion for supporting the ongoing work around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Experience working or living in a diverse and inclusive environment with elevated, demonstrated awareness of issues of social equity and social and racial justice.

Access to a reliable phone.

Demonstrated practice or education serving diverse communities or populations of people of color in an equitable manner and a manner that is respectful and aware of the community's experience.

Demonstrated ability to manage time and set priorities while giving consideration to those serving, your fellow team members, the organization, and the self.

An internet connection capable of easily handling Google Workspace apps and specifically, a Google Hangout/Meet.

Ability to regularly meet in person with your team or your service assignment in their assigned location (including responsibility for transportation to and from).

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to focus on driving and ensuring the safety of the youth while behind the wheel with the potential for distractions.

Safe and skilled driving habits

Ability to remain focused and calm in an excitable environment

DREAM AmeriCorps Benefits:

Living Stipend provided to you in biweekly payments.

AmeriCorps members are also eligible for:

In addition to benefits available through AmeriCorps, DREAM offers our full time hours per week) for a 1700, 1200, or 900 hour term AmeriCorps members a housing stipend, paid directly to your housing provider.

As an AmeriCorps member at DREAM, you will have the additional support of a DREAM AmeriCorps Director to help you navigate your service term and apply for publicly funded programs.

DREAM is invested in your professional and personal development, and holds AmeriCorps Development Days and a variety of professional development opportunities throughout the service term.

If you engage in work-related travel outside of a commute, DREAM will provide reimbursement for mileage.

Members must agree to the following : NSOPW (Public Sex Offender) Check, Statewide Criminal Repository Checks (for State of Service and State of Residence), and FBI fingerprint-based Criminal History Check. The member is aware that their identity must be verified with a government-issued photo ID. The results of these checks will be kept confidential, but could affect eligibility to serve in AmeriCorps.

Work environment: This position operates in multiple spaces. The spaces included may have characteristics similar to a professional office environment, an indoor/outdoor environment with active children and students, at our rustic Camp DREAM, and within the program sites we serve. This role routinely uses computers and various softwares regularly, as well as standard office/school equipment (such as phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and printers) as well as equipment characteristic of an outdoor and indoor youth camp (pop-up shade canopies/tents, hand tools, activity supplies, food preparation equipment, storage spaces and sports equipment/toys).
