The Special Education Learning Coach will provide assistance to an identified caseload of Special Education teachers.

Learning Coaches will observe classroom performance and will provide feedback to teachers assigned to their caseload, will build the teacher's knowledge base and repertoire of teaching skills involving behavior management and instruction, and will support the teacher's efforts for improved student behavior and achievement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position.

The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Other duties may be required and assigned.

Works in coordination with school leadership support team to design the best instructional and behavioral support for a teacher

Assists teachers in conducting a Functional Behavior Assessment and developing a Behavior Intervention Plan

Holds conferences with the professional staff

Observes teachers and support staff in the classroom as needed

Demonstrates behavioral principals and assists classroom teachers with their use

Provides information on current research in Applied Behavior Analysis and evidence-based practices

Assists classroom teachers in selecting instruments for assessment as appropriate

Assists classroom teachers in writing IEP goals and objectives based on the current assessments

Consults and works with staff to provide a total program of coaching and support

Develops presentations/workshops to provide training to parents and school personnel in strategies for crisis management, behavioral intervention, and instruction

Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Willing to work flexible hours as needed

Skills in educational research design and interpretation

Excellent communications, interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to work across departments with varied audiences

Performs other related duties as assigned or directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Tennessee professional teacher's license, special education endorsement

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an educational setting with an emphasis on behavioral and instructional consultation

BCBA Preferred, but not required

Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs.

Physical Ability:

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of up to 50 pounds.

Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:
Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
