Summary:

The Life Enrichment Associate is responsible assisting the Director of Life Enrichment and Team in planning, scheduling, and coordinating meaningful activities appropriate to the needs and interest of the residents and conductive to their physical, mental, and social well-being. Help to ensure the personalized activity programs are appropriately presented by staff.

What You'll Do:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Life Enrichment:

  • Facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly events, games, and conversation to encourage interaction, socialization, relaxation, and active participation.
  • Focusing to maintain the resident lifestyle with personalized one-on-one and small group activities.
  • Handling logistics to make the activity/event possible, such as placing Work Orders, set the room, prepare with necessary equipment, devices.
  • Invites residents to activities and provides necessary transportation and escort.
  • Skillfully communicates with older adults, including those with memory loss and other impairments.
  • Observes residents' enjoyment, needs, and reports any behavioral and/or significant changes to Life Enrichment Director and/or Charge Nurse.
  • Facilitates video calls and in-person (outdoor) visits between Assisted Living residents and family members.
  • Provides daily activity participation record and ongoing assigned documentation.
  • Assesses individual resident's needs and interest and contributes to resident's activities plan.
  • Assist with regular and special recreational outings.
  • Completes daily departmental administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Determines supply needs to support program and acquires as appropriate.
  • Attends department staff meeting represents department at meetings as requested.
  • Participates in training, in-services, seminars, and workshop as appropriate.
  • Acquires knowledge of proper usage of activities equipment and supplies.
  • Works closely with the Director of Life Enrichment and other team members on a daily base to provide meaningful activities to the residents.
  • Communicates and collaborates with all team members and other departments on a regular base.
  • Understands and observes all safety, sanitary, and environmental regulations – especially COVID-19 related protocols - governing the Life Enrichment Program of the department.
  • Promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of Horizon House in all areas of responsibility.

What We're Looking For:
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates

  • High school diploma or equivalent. College experience preferred.
  • Experience working and communicating with older populations;
  • 1 year experience working with older adults in long-term care or equivalent;
  • experience working with dementia preferred;
  • WA State Food Worker Card (Due within 14 days from date of hire)
  • WA DSHS Dementia Specialty Training Certificate & WA DSHS Mental Health Specialty Training Certificate (Required to complete these two training sessions within 90 days from your date of hire If you have not completed this requirement previously or cannot locate a copy of your training certifications)
  • Office 365 Experience (Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel),
  • Knowledge of special needs of residents (physical, mental, and social)
  • The ability to speak, read and comprehend the English language
  • First Aid/CPR (Preferred)
  • event management, experience coordinating volunteers and vendors; internship in a related field (preferred)

Knowledge/Leadership/Collaboration

  • Demonstrates correct body mechanics for lifting and transferring elders and for ambulating elders with assistance
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills working with seniors; ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must possess patience and sensitivity to others needs
  • Ability to work with community groups
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours (including weekends and holidays)
