About the Role:
- Lead Discord's efforts in U.S. state capitals to establish rapport and mutual understanding with policymakers, regulators, and key stakeholders as the Senior Manager of U.S. State Public Policy / Government Relations under the guidance of the Director of US and Canada Public Policy.
- What You'll Be Doing:
- Introducing Discord to government officials and stakeholders, educating them on our vision, products, and commitment to privacy and safety.
- Devising and implementing a long-term advocacy strategy that aligns Discord's interests with regulatory changes in state capitals.
- Monitoring regulatory shifts in online communication and devising responsive plans alongside legal, product, and communications teams.
- Advocating Discord's stance on legislative matters, leveraging coalitions for effective advocacy.
- Supporting the company's responses to regulatory queries and participating in policy coalitions.
Who We're Looking For:
- A track record of at least 5 years in state government or strategic public policy advocacy.
- In-depth understanding of U.S. policymaking, particularly in state legislatures and attorney general offices.
- Capability to develop and execute multi-year advocacy programs aligned with Discord's mission.
- Passion for fostering a sense of belonging online and building diverse, empowered teams.
- Willingness to travel domestically as needed.
Desirable Experience:
- Past involvement in technology policy areas like online safety, privacy, and cybersecurity.
- Ability to simplify technical details for non-technical audiences effectively.
