Veterinary Resident Position at Houston Methodist

Are you passionate about providing care to research animals? Join our team at Houston Methodist as a Laboratory Animal Veterinary Resident. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing animals' medical, physical, and psychosocial status, interpreting diagnostic studies, and performing medical procedures under the supervision of the attending veterinarian. You will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with federal regulations related to the use of animals in research settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with the veterinary care team to provide direct care to research animals.
  • Trains investigators, students, and technicians on proper care and use of laboratory animals.
  • Communicates effectively with the attending veterinarian regarding evaluation findings and treatment plans.
  • Assists in anesthesia, surgical procedures, and post-operative care for research animals.
  • Participates in regulatory processes and inspections to ensure compliance with guidelines.
  • Manages time efficiently and utilizes resources effectively to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Participates in educational activities, research projects, and departmental initiatives.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in laboratory animal medicine and effective communication skills.
  • Maintains a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
  • Prior experience in laboratory animal medicine or research.
  • Active license from the Texas Veterinary Medical Board.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in English language for effective communication.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent bedside manner and customer service focus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to ongoing learning.
