Job Description and Duties


Under the direction of the Deputy Labor Commissioner III (Senior Deputy), the Office Technician (Typing) performs a wide variety of difficult clerical duties involving the administration of the CCU team in order to support the Bureau of Field Enforcement and Public Works Unit in disbursing checks including amounts due workers who have been subject to wage theft.


We enforce the law by setting a standard of fair and expeditious resolution of claims to achieve long-term compliance from the employers of the State of California.

By providing education and meaningful enforcement of wage and hour laws, we combat wage theft and ensure that wages earned are put into the pockets of the workers.

Department Information

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927.

DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Type at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.


Typing Certificate - 40 WPM (words per minute) issued within the last four (4) years and certified from a five (5) minute typing test.
