The Assistant Controller will help manage the accounting department. They will help plan and direct all finance and accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. They will be involved with handling key decisions, challenges, negotiations and be an influencer within the team and throughout the organization. As a leader, they will encourage innovative ideas that are sound and progressive, challenge the status quo, and support creativity in their area of responsibility. This position reports to the Controller.

This position works on-site Monday through Friday at our Dallas, TX office.

Responsibilities will include assisting with:
  • Ensuring timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
  • Preparing cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management
  • Performing duties beyond formal job responsibilities
  • Working closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
  • Managing the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Analyzing, applying and improving policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
  • Researching, preparing and executing Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
  • Presenting executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
  • Guiding all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
  • Additional duties as required

Successful Assistant Controller candidates will have:
  • Budget forecasting experience
  • Recent experience with accrual-based accounting highly preferred
  • Experience in Wealth Management, Investment Management (broker dealer and/or RIA), and/or Insurance highly desired
  • Experience in a public CPA firm, or experience working with multiple entities accounting, or books.
  • Experience preparing complex A/P for multiple entities.
  • Expert proficiency with QuickBooks, especially class tracking & reporting within QB
  • Knowledge of NetSuite an added plus
  • Minimum two (2) years of bookkeeping experience and an accounting degree is preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience processing A/P for a company that has multiple entities
  • Competency and technical skills set to include (but are not limited to) strong knowledge of accounting principles and standard accounting processes for recording company's business transactions into a general ledger, account reconciliations and work paper preparation
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
  • Commitment and ability to meet critical business deadlines
  • Proficiency with MS Excel
  • Detail oriented
  • Sound organizations skills with a proven method
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to positively interact with many types of people
  • Good oral and written communication skills
