Statement of the Job:
To provide hands-on scientific expertise and technical leadership to the CORE eDNA and DNA Sequencing Labs.

This includes filling client requests for services, providing oversight and mentorship of Lab technical personnel, and working to expand knowledge and lab service offerings.

Further includes being responsible for managing daily lab workload and field operations of the facilities, communicating lab improvements necessary to meet user needs to the CORE Director, and working with the CORE Director and CORE Facilities Coordinator to cultivate an active client base.

Typical hiring range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:
MS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or other related discipline.
Two years of professional experience in the area of environmental genetics.
Demonstrated experience with theory, development and implementation of environmental DNA approaches and Next Generation sequencing.

Demonstrated proficiency in processing sequencing samples from filtration to Next Generation Sequencing Library Preparation to Sequencing and basic bioinformatics analysis.

Demonstrated experience with the use and maintenance of genetic analysis instrumentation, including next-generation sequencing platforms.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot sequencing issues and complete sequencing tasks in a consistent and highly proficient manner.
Demonstrated evidence of work-related attention to detail, multitasking, reliability, innovation or service-oriented professionalism.
Strong research based, environmental, health, and safety ethics.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to multi-task and handle diverse responsibilities and work independently in a fast paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively train and supervise staff, students, and lab users.

More than two years of experience managing a laboratory facility.
Prior experience fostering collaborative interactions with clients and stakeholders and growing a user base.

Knowledge and experience with natural resources challenges pertinent to eDNA development and the needs of Maine and the Northeast region.

Functional knowledge of bioinformatics.
