- July 5, 2024Student Services SpecialistWe are seeking qualified applicants for a part time Student Services Specialist for our Montessori preschool program located in Portland Oregon.

This position is responsible for the social and emotional support of the students in AEME preschool classrooms, and will spend the majority of their work hours in the classroom providing educational services.
They are also responsible for the coordination of internal and outside services for children with delays and/or disabilities or who enrolled in the program.
The Specialist will act as support and in-house consultant to assist children with high needs and provide 1-1 coaching and group training to AEME educational program staff.
They will be compassionate, thoughtful, resilient, patient, and highly organized and excited by a position focused on support for young learners with high needs, and parents/guardians.
The Specialist will receive guidance and support from the School Manager & Executive Director and collaborate modeling grace, courtesy and compassion with all students, families, peers, supervisors, and partner stakeholders.

Calm and kind, gets along well with others and thrives in a kid centered environment.Essential functions/responsibilities include working directly with children within the Montessori classroom environment who are in need of adaptations or individualized support within the classroom, playground or school environment.
Schedules and provides home visits, leads our schools Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) process & complete Formative Assessments & ASQs in collaboration with teachers and parents/guardians.
Consults with teachers and staff to facilitate children's full participation or entry/re-entry into a group setting.Works together with Guides, consultants, and assigned MECP (County Special Education staff) on the goals outlined in the child's Individualized Family Service Plans.
Leads Child Study meetings with Guides. Supports families with finding additional resources to best support their child.This position requires a self-starter, who is a quick learner with solid professional judgment, de-escalation skills and calm in a crisis and will be the backup Site Administrator.
They must be able to develop and maintain professional, positive, and collaborative relationships with staff, parents, and partners.This position will be half-time (20 hours per week), working primarily in the morning's M-F and will include occasional afternoon, evening and weekend hours related to parent/school events and professional development training.
AEME is a non-profit which is expanding to open new tuition free Montessori early childhood education programs to neighborhoods within the Portland Metro community.
Student Services SpecialistQualifications:
Experience Required: 1 year experience in early childhood or recreation programs or equivalent experience
Education Required:
Master's degree in Early Childhood/Special Education, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or equivalent education and experience.
Strong Preference for Candidates with the Following Qualifications/Experience:
Bilingual
- Spanish and English, verbal and written.
Secondary Preference for Candidates with the Following Qualifications/Experience:
Experience as a Montessori Lead Guide.
Bilingual in other languages within our family/communitySkills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Strong working knowledge of IFSP/IEP tool, process and best practicesAbility to develop, coordinate, implement and promote adaptive services for very young children complimenting their educational experience and the methods used within AEME preschools.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.Ability to develop a strong sense of teamwork among staff.
Demonstrated ability to treat children with respect, kindness and dignity in all situations.
Ability to work with numerous interpersonal relationships in a confidential manner, including working with translators.
Creative problem solver with high level of personal initiative and solid professional judgement.
Skilled with keyboarding, computers, software, system portals, and administrative systemsAbility to proceed effectively in an emergency or crisis situation.
Strong skills in helping other staff. Creates & updates written materials (school calendars/handbooks.
Computer and key software tool skills.
PDF, Word, Google, spreadsheets, data systems, and able to quickly learn agency specific tools (transparent classroom, mail chimp).Personal dedication to DEI values and will engage and sustain at high level to integrate values into work.
Ability to train, model and support parents, assistants, teachers, and children through conflict resolution processes.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with a diverse team of people, especially very young children and their parents with tact, diplomacy, and compassion.
Reliable, Consistent & Dependable, and can be flexible with work schedule/job duties to support the school.Ability to be tolerant of children's frequent noises of various pitches and tones as well as odors of extreme variants.
Additional Requirements:
Compliance with Oregon's Office of Childcare criminal history registration.
Attain and maintain working knowledge of rules for the Certification of Childcare Centers in Oregon, and AEME preschool grant program requirements.
Gain or demonstrate understanding of Montessori philosophy and methods, to promote and integrate into role.Stay in compliance with Oregon training requirements for Childcare Center staff. Includes but is not limited to CPR/1st Aid, Food Handlers, Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a part-time school- year hourly professional position. The school year timeline is Mid-August to end of June each year.
The hourly wage for this position is $ with defined wage add-on's (Example: Bilingual Fluency (Spanish/English), ORO Step Level, Montessori experience/training, D.O.E.
