This role might involve supporting the Operations Chief by overseeing the day-to-day activities of the IMAT Operations Section, both in the office and the field. Working under the direction of the Operations Chief and/or IMAT Team Lead, this position serves as a subject matter expert in the Operations Section, handling various responsibilities such as collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies and providing guidance to assist response efforts. Additionally, responsibilities include developing and executing strategies to achieve incident objectives.

The incumbent will lead and nurture staff roles within the Plans Section, collaborate with internal and external partners, and ensure the continuity of preparedness, response, and recovery activities. Duties also entail formulating and enforcing departmental policies and objectives assigned to the IMAT in alignment with various emergency management systems and regulations.

Whether in deployment or steady operations, this role encompasses a range of managerial and supervisory tasks including guiding personnel within the Operations Section, monitoring work progress, and overseeing projects aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness efforts for local governments. Additionally, responsibilities involve strategic planning, budget management, and personnel oversight.

The position entails developing and executing single-year and multi-year IMAT workplans, engaging in policy discussions, and providing input on budget-related matters. This role must be ready for deployment at short notice, adhere to safety protocols, and effectively navigate challenging scenarios during emergencies while upholding incident management standards.

The ideal candidate should possess proficiency in relevant tools and applications, such as Cal OES resource management and deployment systems. The role operates in a dynamic environment that demands independent decision-making, meeting tight deadlines, and handling IMAT Planning and Intelligence Section assignments effectively. Moreover, occasional travel and fieldwork may be required.

Working Conditions

This role is based in the Headquarters Response Division.
