NorthPoint Staffing is currently interviewing Site Safety Managers for a opportunity with a well established construction management firm based in New York City.

The ideal candidate will be a Site Safety Manager who is certified and licensed individual responsible for setting, reviewing, and leading the health and safety guidelines for this level of a permitted construction site. The Site Safety Manager will be the leaders onsite to maintain and enforce the safety program of the Company working hand in hand with the Project Management and Risk Management teams to collectively support and build a productive jobsite with safety and quality as a primary focus to the execution of the project.

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Perform and document daily site safety inspections, safety assessments, standdowns and safety audits to identify and address potential hazards on the construction site, identify corrective action and follow up assessments.
  • Conduct site safety orientations with on-site workers, ensuring they understand and follow all safety procedures and protocols.
  • Perform, document and manage all toolbox talks for Company employees, and verify performance of and collect documentation of toolbox talks for subcontractors.
  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly reports as per Company policy and procedures, as well as adhere to requirements of Daily Logs, reports and communications that are a requirement of holding a NYC DOB SSM license.
  • Evaluate, ensure compliance and take necessary action with site workers and the protection of the general public per NYC DOB Chapter 33 and Company Policy.
  • Investigate all accidents and complete all required paperwork as per Company policy, local, state and federal requirements and NYC DOB regulations.
  • Report all incidents and accidents to the management team.
  • Assist with any drug screening, including post incident.
  • Make recommendations to help to prevent future incidents.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Company and OSHA compliance, NYC DOB Inspectors, Insurance Carriers, and other regulatory agencies or vendors that pertain to site safety or site safety issues.
  • Develop, execute and document safety kick-off presentations, pre-construction meetings with upper and lower tier subcontractors prior to their start of work operations.
  • Promote the Company's safety culture initiatives, incentive programs and safety stand down functions.
  • Ensure all construction activities are preplanned and documented in regard to safety through pre-task plans, JHA'S and ensure all workers adhere to the details of the NYC DOB approved site safety plan for the site.
  • Maintain all safety-related documentation and records per DOB requirements and Company protocol and work cohesively with the project management team on site, and Risk Management, becoming a trusted advisor to the team.
  • Perform equipment and tool inspections, document and verify certifications and inspections by subcontractors, and enforce compliance with Company policy and all other jurisdictional requirements, including but not limited to NYC DOB and OSHA.
  • Adheres to the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time walking the site, 20% of the time in the office/trailer managing paperwork.
  • Manage document filing in accordance with Company Policy.
  • Enforce all safety policies and issue violations/fines as per Company policy.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, squat, bend, and lift objects, for prolonged periods of time.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Training and Certifications to be held:

In addition to being a licensed NYC DOB SSM (Site Safety Manager)

The additional certifications, trainings and requirements must also include:
  • Hold a current and valid 62-Hour NYC DOB Supervisor SST Card
  • Hold a current NYC DOB 4 hour scaffold user certification
  • Possess a minimum of 10 Years of construction safety management experience, with at least 3 years of prior experience on Major Buildings (NYC DOB definition)
Additional certifications that are not required but preferred:
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness - S56 - Construction site fire safety manager (Citywide) (Preferred)
  • Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (preferred)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness - F60 - Fire Guard for Torch Operations (preferred)
  • NYC DOB 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Installer / Remover certification (preferred)
  • Trained EMT (preferred)
Additional skill sets:
  • Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to understand and/or speak Spanish is a plus.
  • Practical knowledge of OSHA-CFR 1926 "Construction Safety & Health."
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of NYC DOB - Chapter 33 Construction Safety requirements.
  • Understanding of FDNY NYC Fire Code.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA & other regulatory agency laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledgeable of various construction trades/skills and work operations.
  • Proficient computer skills & familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and basic Windows applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Possess strong leadership and communication skills.
  • 10 years experience in the construction industry
  • 5 years experience as SSC/SSM
