Currently, we are in search of a Senior Electrical Engineer specialized in Substation, Distribution, or Transmission Line to bolster our team. This position is based in Guaynabo, PR, offering a hybrid work model in Puerto Rico or potentially at our Atkins Caribe office.

Reporting to our Chief Electrical Engineer, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for possessing a comprehensive understanding of Engineering Design in Power Systems for High Voltage in the US.

How will you contribute to our team?

Substation Engineer
  • Offering electrical design for substations ranging from 38kV to 230kV.
  • Providing detailed protection & control single line diagrams for high voltage substation projects.
  • Executing substation relaying & metering diagrams including A.C. and D.C. schematic diagrams.
  • Developing physical designs for high voltage substations.
  • Contributing to project scope, estimation, cost input, and schedule oversight.
  • Conducting electrical system studies and calculations such as load flow, short circuit analysis, relay coordination, arc flash analysis, and grounding systems.
  • Producing engineering reports, tender and construction drawings, and necessary documentation.
  • Assisting with field construction, commissioning, and vendor factory acceptance tests.
Distribution Engineer
  • Providing design solutions for distribution power systems ranging from 120/208kV to 13kV.
  • Creating drawings for overhead and underground distribution power systems.
  • Undertaking pole structural analysis.
  • Developing layouts for power distribution, grounding, and lightning protection systems.
  • Executing Short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
  • Supporting project scope, estimation, cost input, and schedule oversight.
  • Preparing engineering reports, tender and construction drawings, and necessary documentation.
  • Assisting with field construction, commissioning, and vendor factory acceptance tests while collaborating effectively with other disciplines.
Transmission Line Engineer
  • Providing designs for transmission line power systems ranging from 38kV to 230kV.
  • Conducting pole or tower structural analysis.
  • Performing conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
  • Specifying transmission line components and developing necessary models and documents.
  • Creating profiles drawings and construction documents adhering to right-of-way requirements and conductor specifications.
  • Contributing to project scope, estimation, cost input, and schedule oversight.
  • Preparing engineering reports, tender and construction drawings, and necessary documentation.
  • Assisting with field construction, commissioning, and vendor factory acceptance tests while engaging effectively with other disciplines.
What qualifications are we looking for?
  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with at least seven years of experience post B.S. or six years post M.S.
  • Ten to fourteen years of experience typically expected.
  • Strong engineering design background in power systems, industrial settings, and high voltage substations.
  • Proficiency in relevant codes and standards such as NEC, ANSI/IEEE.
  • Leadership capabilities to oversee projects and engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in client management.
  • Valid P.E. in Puerto Rico, US, or NCEES record.
  • Experience in equipment sizing, specification, selection including transformers, generators, motors, HV substation equipment, and more.
  • Expertise in various engineering tasks including drawing development, power system studies, and design review.
  • Familiarity with power system analysis software and related tools.
  • AutoCAD proficiency and experience with Bill of Material and Cost Estimate.
